If you all didnt know, me and Jesda are hosting the greatest (or soon to be) Q45 website, Q45.org!

Its been going for about 2 weeks, and Im going to add some stuff to it. The main thing I want to have is a comprehensive FAQ section, as well as certain articles on common topics on the Q. I will also include my writeups I have done on my website.

So, could you guys help me think of FAQs for the Q45? Any generation, but mostly focusing on the G50 generation.

Heres an off-the-cuff list I can think of

What are the timing guidesWhy do they failHow involved is fixing themWhat is the plenumWhat needs to be done while under the plenumWhat are the minor differences between the yearsWhat is the difference between the Q45, Q45t and Q45aWhat are common issues?

These are things I can think of off the cuff. I will do research here on NICO on each individual one and post that. Any links you want to post would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Wes

Wes, it sounds like you are creating some competition for NICO. What's going on with that? Where's the love?

Also, there may be seem proprietary issues regarding taking info from NICO and using elsewhere. I don't know the particulars of how it is all setup, but I suggest you shoot Greg or one of the Admins an email regarding some of your intentions.

Competition? Heck no! Just organizing FAQs where NICO n00bs can be directed.

I really oppose directing traffic (even momentarily) elsewhere, especially NICO n00bs who are the most likely to need the services of our advertisers.

While I don't think it'd ever be a real threat to what we do here, every second that a viewer is away from NICO and on another site means less advertiser views. And they are the ones who pony up the $$$ to give us a place to meet and share information.

If this happened to the G35, the 240sx, the Maxima, the Alty, the Sentra, and so on, we'd have lots of little specialty sites and NICO would shrivel and die.

I agree that anything pertinent to the Q should be made an article, and credit given to the approporiate parties.

I spend a buttload of money every month to give people "a place to catalog information" - That's why we have so much bandwidth and space.

In all honesty I am very surprised I didnt get more support for this!

My idea behind this was to have a place where information would be easliy accessable (unfortunately not NICO, mianly becuase theres so mcuh). My main idea was to have the information easily accesible, easy to understand, and short and sweet..... THUS I would have links on my site for NICO, and thus the people finding the information will see the information on my site and want to come to NICO for EVEN MORE!

Lets be honest, the articles section (at least for the Q) sucks. Not doggin you nick, but it really does. The information is decent, but theres hardly anything and its all stuff that should be no brainers..... Looking at it right now, there are about 25 for ALL INFINITI!!!!!!!!! I could write about 50 on just the Q!!!!!! There are 4 pertaining to the Q (G50), none on the Y33, and one on the F50! PLus the information there is mainly NEWS YOU CAN USE, and really isnt useful as in helping someone actually gain knowledge on doing something on the Q, or things of that nature.... Not to mention its deep within the site (google wont pick it up, more than 2 clicks in), and getting there for someone whos not familiar is not easy......

What we have is good information (in the articles), but its not REAL WORLD APPLICABLE information. Plus searching the forums takes FOREVER (BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!) because the information is sketchy, broken up and often needs ot be interprited (Dennis has good information but takes someone with a degree in Plenumology :D to decode sometimes!)

Basically you have to read up every thread in order to get the whole scope on things, while that may be best way, its certinaly not efficient. The bes tthing is to have a place where they can click a few times, read a paragraph and get the idea. THEN they can dig deeper for further reading. My idea was to provide a synopsis for each problem and then if so desired more information can be saught after... I think that I possess the ability to write consisely without leaving out important details (this post doesnt count, its like my longest ever!)

I think Ive proven my point, and I think that what I could do with Q45.org would provide a great service to the internet and the members of NICO!

I'd love to have a willing volunteer rectify that.

Of course, that would mean Moderator privileges, which we'd have to discuss.

All it takes is someone to see something they want changed and the desire to change it. I agree with the need for some simplification, rearrangement and refining.

Any takers?

Wes, write away! I bet Nick will post your FAQ in the Infiniti Articles forum (provided they are literate and accurate), and you will get the credit with no financial risk.

What could be better?

Like you, I regret members who post gratuitously ("You've got mail!" As if the recipient wouldn't know when he opened his email client.) for whatever reason. Perhaps if we all went back and deleted some of this flotsam, the Search function would work better.

LOL - I remember when all I wanted was to be [email protected].

Bought the domain name, and then the wanker that sold it to me wouldn't release it, turned into a big fight, already had license platwes that said Q-45.net...

He finally refunded all my money plus interest after I had a nice little letter sent to him and the registrar from our attorney.

Little did I know that a year and a half later I'd be [email protected]. :)
