The Q45 is a 1990 and the J30 is a 1994, i wanted to keep the car as stock as possible and didnt want to add a aftermarket double-din radio

I got this from a website http://www.carstereohelp.com/infiniti.htm AM/FM/CASS/CD COMBO, many related problems found with these stereos. Dead, on with no sound, intermittently has sound, will not turn on, then it will turn on and work fine (for a short while, sometimes longer), no tape or ejects on it's own, CD display reads "Err" or "HHH", no or intermittent display or a combination of these listed problems. Repair estimate includes parts and maintenance of all known problems, our repair rate $250.

The 90 Q had a different bose system than did the later bose systems, probably why it did not work... assuming the HU is good.
