Rex...I think you know this one and I can't find the answer tonight. Can I fit a 6.5" component speaker into the front doors easily enough by cutting the existing bose speaker mounts?

Depends on how deep the basket and magnet structure are.

It'd have to be pretty shallow(4in) to fit in the Bose box.

You could easily fab up a mount out of MDF for it, and make a small enclosure for the speaker.

As PMQ said, your limitation will most likely be around mounting depth if you want to use the existing "pod". I'd suggest fabbing a mounting "plate" by tracing an outline of the existing pod onto some MDF and then use a "foam hat" baffle backing to enclose the speaker.

I thought I read somewhere that you could put a 6.5" in the door easily enough and there was actually an aftermarket bracket from the 300ZX that fit our Q's in doing the larger speaker upgrade.

If not a 6.5", what about a 5.25" speaker in the door? Any clearance issues with this size?

I think the only thing that may limit the use of a 6.5 is if you want to modify the existing plastic bose speaker pod. Then the limit is the mounting depth. If you remove the plastic pod, I think you're pretty wide open.

IMHO, 5.25's are plenty for front stage, but the 6.5's should fit.
