My drivers door sags a bit necessitating a harder slam than usual for full closure. I've acquired hinges from a 92Q and plan to change them soon. While extracting the hinges from the 92, I noticed a rubber type sealant where the hinge makes contact with the chassis... (probably for rust prevention and vibration dampening). Does anyone know exactly what was used? I'm planning on using liquid gasket.

Also, I need to paint the hinges...does anyone know the paint code for the Q in my sig? I'll pick up a small spray can if possible. I guess just about any red will work in such an inconspicous location.

Oh, any tips on replacement would be appreciated. I plan to replace them one at a time of course instead of removing both hinges first (duh). I know I'll need to support the door somehow while I do this.

I love this site.. I know I can accomplish this job without help, but having that extra pool of brainpower and experience means I'll be that much closer to perfection.

hinges off a 92 are now 14 years old- why would they be in any better condition then the ones currently on your car? seems like new is the way to go for such a stressed part that is no fun to swap and properly adjust.

Especially when the new parts are relatively inexpensive. You can replace upper and lower with brand new for only $30 per door.

Well, the door wasn't sagging on the 92 and I got em dirt cheap as in 4 bucks for the set. You be the judge.

It just hit me! I'm not sure if they are reversible but I should have removed the passenger side hinges instead (Less usage.... duh????). If reversible I'll go back and get the other set.

Thanks guys...you have helped my cheap azz in an unintended manner.

Pretty sure you have to take your front fenders off to replace the hinges.....

OK, you just wasted $4 bucks.

By the time you do the labor to put them on, you will wish you had brand new ones so you won't have to repeat the labor so soon.

New ones are not very expensive, although they do require painting if you want a match.

Okay... I'll let you know my honest opinion once I put them on. If they work and are not sagging, I don't think I'll ever change them again given the age/mileage of the car...this is my first time changing them... they were sorta sagging when I first got the car.

Lately I've spent the following....

1500 on transmission replacement (first transmission was bad and I ate the labor)100 on new radiator...it was time250 on crank angle senser diag and replace (with used)65 on exhaust repair305 on new front tiresAt least 200 on misc items....105 (soon for ECU upgrade)Currently I have a slight crack in a rim due to an attack by a curb in the supermarket..that will cost about 120 to fix....edit 85 for alignment....

It's Xmas and I have two kids....

U get where I'm going with this? Used hinges are the sht right now.

Well, they do sound bad, but wait until after Christmas and lift the door when closing until then.

The used ones will wear out sooner, and you really don't want to repeat the considerable labor. You've done a great job restoring your car, so keep it up and it will serve you fine. Daddies get Christmas too!

Yeah, it's pretty bad....it only lines up when closed because of the striker...which I happen to grab off the other Q too since the plastic sleeve on mine was eaten through.

Door closed

Door open and slightly ajar

What does Nissan make their hinges from? Every Nissan I've owned or known has had worn hinges after only 50-80k. I can't imagine yours at 200k!

The wind blew my driver's door wide open and bent my upper hinge. I took the door off the car and tried to align the door by prying on the hinges and now the door closes around 95% pefectly. It still stits a little low on top by the chrome molding and a little out near the bottom where the door meets the post.No wind noise and no water leaks. I bought a new upper door hinge to replace mine, but had to return it since the Infiniti dealer sold me a used part in a new bag . The body shop refused to install it when they saw the used part. I think I'm going to buy 2 new hinges when I get I chance and paint them and have them professionally installed.

It is not my intention to offend you or any femal members or any members whatsoever. If I have done so, I can remove the pic immediately with no reservations. I just like that pic, because it makes me relax, that's all. I love women and I'm attracted to all parts of the female anatomy in all their sizes and glory.

They're commonly referred to as breasts, medically as mammaries. Female mammals use them to nurse their young.

It doesn't bother me that you removed it, but if you're at work for example, who's looking at your screen while you're reading NICO that should not be looking at it? At my desk, the only person that looks at my screen is me.

I know removal was necessary... it's a damn shame though since they had me quite fixated (sigh). Then again.... I was having trouble reading the posts.

I'm so confused...... Sorry, they short-circuited my thought process....

Well. Both of my rear doors sag. Like really. They look like they're open. No water leaking or wind noise. But its growing in it's power to annoy you know? I feel that everyone can see (probably a paranoid thought) and it really bugs me.

Any tips on fixing it?

rears are very accessible.do one hinge at a time and let me know how it goes.

I've got the LF-upper on black that is wobbly. so, I'm looking for someone who has actually done it without pulling a fender.

i just ordered new hinges for my drivers door as well.

6 years ago, an acquaintance of mine who has a body shop used a cool tool his friend invented.4 foot bar one end locled into the latch on the door latch on B piller then there was a slide thet the door latch locked into.

he gave one calculated yank up and tweaked my hinges.

they lined up perfectly for 5 more years.

really you should because it sucks to adjust the door without it. I would recommend that the fender comes off, but its possible to do it without.
