WHAT THE F*CK! WHAT THE F*CK! IM BUGGING RIGHT NOW!so i woke up this morning went out side started the q45 up to get warmed up while i shower. when i got dressed and ready to go to work i was walking towards the car i hear like spinning grinding sound from under the car. when i went under to listening where its comin from it seems like the transmission. i had my wife put her foot on the gas and the sound got louder when she revs it. i got in and out it in drive it goes into drive 3,2,1 and reverse and the car moves in all gears so i said im not goin to drive it to work. when i get back home i started up again check transmission fluid all good. but when i jump in after warming and put in gear the car doesnt move. dont move in reverse or 1,2,3. when i shift from park to reverse or drive its like nothing happens. when u have ur foot on brakes and shift in gear its like nothing engages at all. i can sit there and rev in drive and dont move an inch literally. but that sound is still there, a spinning grinding sound. the car never slipped gears always shift on point i change filter and fluid every summer after storage.

please i need some help with this i hope its not a bad transmission! i never seen any signs of bad transmission! the car never slipped in any gears even under pressure!

im not mad at the q cuz i have her for 6yrs now and only work i did was dual exhaust and radiator and altenator cuz of system. always maintained her oil change plugs etc. recently found out bout transmission oil mobil 1 is best so i did that after new filter.

I hope you didn't put Mobil 1 engine oil into your transmission. Is there a Mobil 1 transmission fluid too?

Also, do you usually start your car and leave it running while you take a shower? If so what a waste of gas.

there is a mobile 1 transmission fluid. and yes i do in autums it gets a lil chilly up here. runs better when i let it warm up completely its 30 degrees right now lol and plus a good running q45 doesnt burn no extra gas than needed and plus if u cant afford the gas for a q45 dont drive it lol is what i was told when prices started going up.

Probably not even 1/4 gallon per 15 minutes of hot idling in park............assuming the system reduces rpm progressively after 3>5 minutes.

To some a warm car is worth $3-$5 per week.

By chance are you, or have you, been seeing a TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION warning in the odometer display? With any luck it's just an external sensor gone bad. Try the Transmission Self-Check on page AT-41 and get back to us with the codes that come up.

thats the crazy thing. no transmission malfunction at all. the only time i saw a transmission malfunction is when i first started up the q with the 93 tcu in it with 1st gear start. then i shut it off and never came back.

It's good and bad. The self check you just did looks at mostly external sensors to make sure they're all working and communicating with each other and the TCU/ECU so the transmission shifts when it's supposed to.

The bad news is it's likely something internal to the transmission, i.e. a torque converter, worn out clutches or any of the other things that have been suggested so far.

The replacement procedure will be in the FSM link in my first post. Searching old posts will give you a lot of info also. We're close to the limit of my knowledge of transmissions so someone else is going to have to fill you in on other checks that can be done.

Never seen a TC fail without exploding and jamming now lock up clutches are something else.

Check the pump by discoing AT cooler line to radiator with a pan to catch flow [4 quarts per minute at idle]...........don't let more than a quart run out without refilling.

Just to make sure you haven't just broken the shift lever follow detailed test in FSM to check different positions of shifter. Remember there is no solid connection to transmission just electronics from tcu and the Park pawl.

How many miles om transmission, the 94 are better than early units but still after 150k it's a wing and a prayer.

The longest I've ever kept a transmission is 175k on #3 now.

Luckily the RE4R03A is like its lesser weaker version the RE4R01A which was common on 240sx, pathfinder any RWD, so rebuilders understand it.But won't spend the time to do it right for the long haul since most only give a 1-2 year warranty.

q45tech now when u say exploding. u mean like really exploding? and when u say jamming meaning that the tc is not turing and clutches are locked up.

when i just start up the car from cold start it selects gears and move but when it reaches operation temp it stop selecting gears and stop moving.

im tryin to get a video for u guys to see and hear the sound that im talkin about but wife keep leaving camera at work.

i got 161500 on the car.

im going to try and disconnect the a/t cooler line like u said and see wat happens. so likely if there is no constant oil low(4q per minute) it needs a tranmission pump? would bad pump cause that spinning grinding/clicklin sound im hearing?

and if it does spray oil constant it needs a tc?

Meaning you would hear it if the torque converter went out on you.

Try looking at the transmission fluid temprature sensor. Much easer done with a consuld or Volt/OHM/ Meter.

Do you have the service history on this car to see when the tranmssion was last changed and flushed?

The pump will whine when cold on some cars. Not sure how to explain it.

But other than that make sure the TCU is OK and tha harness going to it is fine.
