I have found a Q45 in the bone yard, and they are willing to give up the diff. in it for about $30. While i feel like thats a pretty good deal and all,, Will it fit in my s13 with the rear cover swap? Is the diff. nessecarily a vlsd. What gear ratio is in it?

The Q45 differential will not fit because it is too big, and it is geared different. Read up, http://www.ka24development.com/vlsd.html. That link has a lot of info on LSD's.

That site is wrong/outdated...

You seem to be the one that needs to do some reading..... if you bothered to read the Q FSM it would show you the 90-96 Q uses two special version of the R200 [3.538], either a single ABS ring on input or two ABS rings on the outputs [tcs and active cars]. The 97-01Q has a 3.694 gear set and a different housing

the q45 90-96 should fit. I don't know abou the halfshafts. Pinion and Ring should be swapped however.

Sorry for the misinformation...

I was directed to that site when I had vlsd questions, and I don't read up on every one of Infiniti's FSMs, so I assumed the site was correct.

Wow, thats cool. So the carrier size will be the same so i can use my old gear set from the original diff? (probably should have done some reading my self first)

Ok, so after reading, this question is still un answered: If the gears need to be switched, and the old diff is a r200 and the new one a r2oov , Could i just take the VLSD carrier and install it in the r200 casing? If this is possible it would seem a good idea just to get away from the possibility of a length problem because of an abs sensor.

you don't have to connect the abs sensor, one of the links explains. The Vlsd pumpkin is shaped a little different so I don't think you can swap casings. However, the q45, bein r200v (earlier models) should fit right into the subframe. The thing you have to look for is the right half shafts. 3 pairs of bolts. The gears you have to swap and are interchangeable btwn. the two is the pinion gear, and the ring.

You can, but remember to take the flanges out as well and install them too.

Also make sure you have proper gear mesh, you can do this by using dye and spinning the input shaft. Improper gear mesh causes all kinds of issues.
