People tend to associate Mercedes and Volvo with having a high level of crash worthiness. Does anyone know how our 1990 to 1996 Q45's fair in this regard. Obviously it is a well built heavy car so that must be in its favor

Just ask Natsoundup, his son wrecked his Q and walked away i believe... I also recall some other guy wrecked his J30, flipping MULTIPLE times and walked away...

I take pride in driving a very safe car.. You cna load a car with 30 airbags, but nothing will replace an acre of sheet metal and weight.....

Got average to poor ratings in its day.

Still probably better than an econobox.

I don't recall the series one ever being officially crash tested. The series two was however.

I went to read the results @ NHTS they had no records of the G50\Q45.

However It was the safest car Nissan had ever made using all the energy absorbing features found standard on todays cars.

The 97+ Q45 (Y33\Q41 ) Was the Q45's 1st recorded NHTS and it did not do well at all.

I wreaked a 1993 base Q45 @ 80MPH on the Highway in the rain bounced off both sides of the highway BACKWARDS and didn't bend the frame but .5 inches 3500+ bodywork and 1500 Tires, brakes, Tierods the steering rack was probably shot.

A Caddy of the same year would have been totaled (Dam Plastic caddy's)

The fact the G50 and PH50 have the gas tank mounted in the trunk makes them safer than a lot of cars on the road.

They have to get through a LOT of steel to get to the tank.

The PHG50 Is still used as a Embassy car because of that feature.

I reacall a test where one of the Q's -- cannot recall the year -- was rated as having one of top three cars for not rolling over. They calculated the weight, center of gravity, width and wheel base and rated it just below the tank-like Rolls. Not rolling over is important in crash worthiness. Also, weight is a good thing here (for once!)

That is one of the main reasons why I bought this car. It looked to be big and safe. I have a son due any day now and I need somthing safe to put him in.
