My '97 Q45 has 54,950 miles. Starts, idles, runs and accelerates perfectly and recently barely registered on a Calif. smog test. Gas mileage has not changed. Very recently, the "check engine soon" light came on and has remained on. Before I take it to the dealer and spend probably a great deal of money, I was wondering if this could be caused by a certain number of miles having elapsed. I ask because years ago I had a Volvo whose light came on every 10,000 miles-a mechanic took pity and told me where the (hidden) mini-odomoter was and how to reset. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think so... I've never heard of a timer related maintenence light on any Nissan/Infiniti. Since your car is OBDII, it's very sensitive to any sensor failure. It may be a very minor issue, so don't be afraid to take it in for the test at least. You might want to do a diagnostic only and then order the faulty part from Joe at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com and install it yourself if it's something that's easy to fix.

Welcome to NICO!
