I forgot to connect the air temp sensor and now my check engine light is on. Stopped by the neighborhood parts store. Tech connected a scan tool but said it was receiving no signal from my 98 Q45.

Do I need to use a specific code scan tool to know what is causing the code and reset the code?

Thanks, Bruce

Any OBD2 scanner/code reader should be capable of reading codes and resetting the system.

The only reasons I can think of that would prevent it from doing so would be operator error, defective scan tool, problem with under-dash obd2 connector{loose or broken/missing terminal pins}

Try a different store/shop to read as a first step

Then, buy an OBDII scanner for yourself. I hear $50 will get you a decent one. You'll be able to pull codes yourself. Good luck!
