Hey guys,
Just went to order the parts to replace the timing chain guides on my recently acquired '91 Q, and received an email from Scottsdale saying that one of the tensioners, and two of the guides are NLA:

Item: Tens Chain (13070-60U12)
Item: Guide Chain (13091-60U01)
Item: Guide Chain (13091-60U11)

This of course begs the question - okay - so NOW what? I have seen aftermarket guide sets (PCI, Cloyes, and Beck Arnley brands). Normally, I would never go aftermarket for internal engine components, but given the situation not sure I have another option. Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket components? My first thought was to buy all the genuine parts that are still available, and then fill in the missing parts with aftermarket - but mixing and matching does not seem like the best of plans. Alternatively I can go with all aftermarket, but not sure what the track record on these parts are, assuming they have one. Any advice from fellow owners who have run into this problem is GREATLY appreciated.

I just replaced the guides on my 93, i ordered a respected DJN kit from rockauto.com for under $200 and it had the same quality as OEM parts. ALTHOUGH, you do have to go to the dealer to get the four longer bolts and the right slack side guide. Before that kit I bought a cheap ebay kit and some of the guides were broken... I honestly don't know why they told you they were discontinued.. I can still order a full timing kit from my local Nissan Ford dealer..

The parts mentioned are definitely no longer available from the central warehouse. I originally ordered from Infiniti of Gwinett, then when they advised that some of the items were NLA, I went to Scottsdale in hopes they might still have shelf stock - no dice. Your local dealer may let you order the parts (both Gwinnett and Scottsdale accepted the order) but I suspect that they would then come back and advise that a number of parts are discontinued without replacement. That said, I'm happy to give it a shot - who's the dealer that's telling you they are still on hand?

discontinued is different from not on hand... I think it's very possible there are probably a lot of dealerships with the kits collecting dust on shelves.

Good grief... it's about time to build a bunker to park the Q in for the next 20 years or so. If I'm going to drive a classic with no parts availability, it might as well be really old - not just "well preserved"

I think I'm going to try my chances with Beck Arnley, and pray for Nissan parts when I open the packages. I'll update everyone with what I find when they arrive. Fingers crossed!!!
