Where did the brake fluid come out? Around the piston?

They are very easy to rebuild; its pretty much just one seal, which is the seal around the piston. Rebuild kits are like $3 and come with that seal, and a new boot for each piston.

No, the seal is bad. It shouldn't matter how much or far you push on the piston. It shouldn't leak there. Put a rebuild kit in it and you'll be good.
