How do you get this message BRAKE PADS WORN to go away after changing the pads.

Make sure you use OEM pads or buy a new sensor separately. The old sensor is basically a wire embedded in a resin that wears in two when the sensor contacts the brake rotor. When the wire is broken the ECU sees an open circuit where there should be a closed one and illuminates the "Brake Pad Worn" message on your dash. Once it's tripped you have to replace it.

If you absolutely don't want the sensors, you can take your old sensor... cut the sensor off of the wires (ON THE SENSOR SIDE OF THE HARNESS)... solder them together, wrap in electrical tape, and plug it back in to the harness. That "fools" the ecu into seeing a closed circuit and turns the message off.
