Can some one tell me what year 300Z calipers would be used as a upgrade for my 91 Q? :)

I believe all of the latest model 300ZX(90-96) caliper and rotor combos are a bolt on upgrade. Be sure to get the shims to avoid squeal. Your sensor wires will need to be spliced to keep the brake pad worn light out. Good luck!

Just found this site, it has some good info on the 300z caliper differences, http://www.princeton.edu/~asad/zbrakes/

The rotors are about the same, the calipers and pads are the big advantage. About 30% more pad and 4 piston front/2 piston rear vs Q 2 piston front/1 piston rear. Stillen has a pricey Skyline kit that is an upgrade for the Z and fits the Q. It has significantly larger crossdrilled rotors and internally ventilated rears along with the 300Z calipers, slightly changed to accomodate the bigger rotors. Still uses the 300Z pads, so you have some choices in materials.

i'd rather pay for most of a SC then upgrade the brakes to that thing.

Do the 300ZX pads have sensors like the Q? That would be a sweet conversion.

The strangest thing happend today, I called around to get a price on loaded 300Z calipers, Autozone wants $128.00 for the pair, and Advanced Auto wants 120.00 each, after checking a few other places I would have to say that Autozone has the wrong price but im getting theme tommorow before they figure it out.

I wonder what we'd have to do about the brake lines? Could one still use the Q's factory lines or upgrade to a Z's?

I'm guessing you can use the same Q lines, assuming the fittings are all the same size. But if I was going to spend the money on the brakes, I'm sure I could squeeze out a bit more for new lines. As far as performance, the new calipers should require less pressure to get the same stopping force. P=F/A, so if you're increasing the area of the brake pistons, while keeping the force on the pads the same, then the pressure will be less.

No sensors - you'd have to short them out.

aaacomp (Glenn) has a SMOKIN deal on Brembo rotors...

Did you use the existing Q rotors with these calipers?

I ordered theme, should take 3-5 days, they didnt have theme in the stock, I was looking at the Brembos that aaacomp had for sale, looks like a nice price, for now however I think im gonna just use the Raybestos pads that come in theme then change to somethin else later

Yeah, that's it. If you have a lot of time to kill, you can try to fix the sensor, but that's a lot of work. I think you can buy just the sensor from Joe, but I'm not sure.

The easiest way to defeat the sensor is to cut the wires on your old brake sensor, twist them together (i've used a wire nut as a temporary fix until replacing the pads) and then plugging it back in to the harness going to the ECU. The sensor is nothing more than a wire that gets cut when it rubs the rotor - so you're right, normally shorted, open when tripped...

And if one wishes to return the function to stock in the future, couldn't they just be coupled together with an insulated socket?
