hello all,

installed rear brakes about 2weeks ago on my 94 Q45a.. the left rear has since been producing a smell, similar to an electrical burn and i can see steam/smoke at times after i park (similar to the smell tractor trailers produce when there brakes are locking)

i initally took the brakes off and reinstalled them, thinking maybe they were seated properly, but i still have the problem and i'm looking at the pad and its down maybe 70% so i think the calipler is stuck or something causing it to lock.

anyone know if i'm on track here and if so HELP.. how do i fix this problem before i blow a tire or worse ignite my fuel tank.

thanks

Good idea to have all 4 calipers rebuilt [new seals and clean polish piston] at least every 10 years along with replacing the 4 flex brake lines.

In 14 years the only time my Q was towed EVER [@12 years] was for a bad caliper and simultaneous leaking brake hose........Right front always fails first..........most stressful location on any car!

Master cylinders also have a finite life. Haven't seen many failing ABS but after 11 years it's about time.

The rebuild kit [from dealer is cheap] takes some expertise and shop air and a wood block.

An interesting footnote. The Infiniti repair history for my car indicated the fomer owner visited the dealer with a brake problem and the diagnosis was a sticky caliper. When he got the repair quote he refused the repair!!! Needless to say he returned to the next day and had the work done.
