I'd check the door sensors in each door. The rubber cover of one of them is probably torn and it can cause the alarm to go off as the door moves.

If the dome light comes on while your driving that's a sure sign!

Otherwise you might have some major electrical issues, was this car flood damaged or rebuilt?

Doc,

Glad to know you got it fixed, those kinds of problems will drive you NUTZ. (I know!)

BTWI hate to say this but, you really need to use the search engine first before posting. There is a ton of great info on the site, so take a few hours, read them (esp. anything by Q45tech). It will save you big $$$ and frustrations.

So what have you done to diagnose the problem? Door sensors that JBerger suggested seem like a good place to start.

You might also check your hood pin switch. If the lights aren't staying on - I'd say you can rule out the door pin switches. They're either grounded or not - and since they control both. The trunk also has a switch.

I do not know about the Q but my J30 will not even lock the doors and I assume set the alarm if a door is open or hood open.

If this is the case then it has to be a switch that is intermittent.

Do you have a continuity tester? Check the hood switch and door sitches while operating the units to try to simulate an open. I think that a switch is faulty thus allowing the alarm to arm then opening after a short while

Does your security light blink (lower right instrument cluster) when the car is closed up tight and the key is out of the ignition? If it lights up you have to find that bad switch, probably the hood due to the high heat in there, that's where my problem was. Had to replace only the rubber boot. Like Juiceman said, if there's a bad switch it can't do anything but keep setting off the alarm. Good Luck

I guess I should have said "does it light up and keep blinking after 60 seconds?" It's supposed to blink on and then go off when it sets alarm mode. If the light goes out, I would think your switches are OK and the problem is elsewhere. I would gut the whole thing and get an aftermarket alarm/remote entry system if you don't find the problem. I hate having to use the key to open my 91.

well after about 10-12months of no more flase alarms, my '94 Q is sounding its alarm/horn again!!!.. only the horn comes on.. no flashing lights!!

i didn't do anything special last time other than to slam shut the doors, trunk and hood a few times!!

where is this 'hood switch' that some of you guyz are talking about??

also, if i pull out the the FUSE for the security system.. why does it still trigger and the alarm/horn sounds??
