The failed darlington resistor is the hard to replace component of the fan control amplifier which is the part you just purchased. Most of us don't have the skills, knowledge or parts to replace the resistor so buying the fan control amp assembly for $65 is a better option. I disassembled my amp and the cooling blades sitting on my desk at work make an interesting conversation piece (has that been to the moon and back?).

If the air is coming out cool but not cool enough then the freon probably just needs topping off. No tank is air tight forever, especially a compressed gas system. If the shop suspects a slow leak (based on what you tell them) they'll add a bit of dye to the freon and inspect the system for leaks.
I had one of the Schraeder valves replaced on the 94Q last summer with the same warmish air issue. You're probably looking at a $100 bill to have the AC system topped off and inspected. Replacing the leaky valve was only about $40 more.
