Ok, here's the scoop. I've been thinking for some time about getting a second vehicle to relieve some of the miles I put on the G. Whatever I would get would be my daily driver and I would use the G on really nice days and the weekend. This would allow me to eventually turn the G into an all out project car in a couple of years while keeping my mileage down now.

I have seen and went to take a look at a 1994 Q45a that I recently have seen for sale in my area. The car has pristine paint and interior and only has 82,000 miles. New rubber and battery also. The asking price is $7995.

What are your thoughts on the 94 Q45a? Pluses and minuses compared to other model Q's. I have spoken to Wes about it already and have his input. Just curious as to what everyone here thinks. Wes had some reservations about it being an a. Wes and I may go and take a look at it and take it for a test drive next week.

It is quite a bit more than I would want to spend. I was hoping to spend 5k or less. What would you guys suggest regarding this Q or something else around the 5k price. I keep hearing such great things about these early model year Q's that my interest in them is really piqued. Plus I practicly have a Q expert in Wes who would be willing to help with much the repair and maintenance if needed.

Is there a model year Q that you would recommend that would fit in my price range of around 5k? Is there something else I should consider instead such as a Maxima or J that would be better? Any thoughts, advice, recommendations are greatly appreciated.

If anyone sees anything that they feel i would be interested in, please let me know about it. I am fairly open, but would like to keep it in the family of Nissan and Infiniti, preferably Infiniti. I like the little luxuries.

A coworker picked up a '97 (non active) for about the same price, with fewer miles. The actives are awesome if they work right, but at that age it will likely need at least $1000 in accumulators from texasoil to feel blessed. Otherwise, the '94 is a great choice I think, and I would be surprised if you couldn't find one for $5k. Don't be afraid of 100,000 miles or more if maintenance records are solid.

Yea, just be afraid of parts needing to be replaced.

My 94 was dealer maintained. I had a huge maintenance record log from the dealer since the car was brand new. Maybe it's just my experience, but at 100k many q parts begin needing to be replaced..

You could find a 94 in your price range.... I'd be leery of the "a", just because of the costs of maintaning it. It's a spectacular car, but if the active system acts up, look out.

I think there was a sweet one in the Classified forum a day or two ago...

You know basically what ive already said, but heres some things ive forgotten to add:

1. 90% of this car is mileage irrelavent, in terms of things wearing out.. IE in 10 years time, they will most likely be as worn out at 80k as they are at 120k... Some difference, but overall things are gonna need to be replaced regardless of mileage......

For your deal you dont want an active..... A J30 is about as much to maintain with the timing belt and all...

The 90-93 obviously has the guide problems, but are said to be more performance oriented, mainly due to the different gears and suspension setup. No biggie, ill keep my heated seats! :)

in my experience the 95-115k range is when the car is going through midlife crisis and you really need to start replacing stuff. If you can get one with 120k that has the 60k service done, your way ahead of the game.....

Theres a 92 (I think) for sale here on NICO... 5000 and the guides are done!!

I bought my 94' Q45a for $2500... then again, I bought mine with active suspension problems and a short list of repairs.

To date, I've replaced the radiator, fixed the passengers side door/window as neither would open, replaced the tires, replaced the valve cover gaskets, fixed the antenna and assortment of other small items. Total DEALER estimate of the repair bill: $9k. Needless to say I didn't go through the dealer, got great prices on parts and had them installed/replaced via my backyard mechanic (only went to the dealer for select items). My total cost of repairing the car: about 2.5k. Although I have the new accumulators, I still don't have the leak solved. I'm expecting another $500 in labor and $100 (for a complete active suspension setup from aaacomp). Should have any parts I'll need for further repairs then and should have one beautiful Q.

In short, I wouldn't pay over $5-6k for one that's in good condition with average milage. Most will come with a hefty repair bill. It'd help if it's under warranty... if not, have the dealer inspect the car before you buy it. It will be well worth it for $100.

Sweet. Hopefully he'll get back to me tomorrow. I'm pretty hyped about this now. I want that car. Now I just have to get some fundage together. Looks like the wheels for the G may have to wait till next spring.

That thing is SO sweet....

There's NO way such a gorgeous 92 can go to a non-NICO member.

I really like the light interior - Quite rare with the black paint.

OUTRAGEOUSLY SEXY!!!

So jealous of that color..

Here is my advice regarding an A.. Don't get an A, unless you specifically are seeking one out.. That is unless you've fully researched the system, how it works, what it takes to maintain, etc etc, don't get it.. If you have, and you love one of the most advanced suspensions ever put on a car (still to this day) then by all means do.. Always good to get an A in the hands of a good owner..

It's not fair to the ever so dwindling amounts of active Qwhen people buy them because it's an "upgraded" model, and then stripping the system because of maintenance costs.. not fair to the active suspension :(

Yeah, I have kind of ruled out the A model. If anyone is interested in the one I posted the info on, please let me know and Wes and I will take a look at it for you. It is a bit out of my price range and hearing all this talk about the active suspension has me a bit concerned. I don't have the time or the money to take care of the suspension system on that car. It is a gorgeous car and just needs a little love. A nice bath and a 5-Star treatment and you'd never know that the car wasn't brand new, at least for appearances sake.

I hopefully can get out to St. louis and check this 91 out though. It looks like a great car with most if not all of the important mainteance already taken care of.

Oh, and the G is going nowhere. Having a second car will make it much easier to really mod the G once the warranty period is over. Headers, Exhaust, Y-pipe, Pulleys, Torque Converter, maybe then a nice Twin Turbo Twin Intercooler set-up. Most of that wouldn't happen if the G was the daily driver. We'll see.

I have always felt that the A is a one of a kind “feeling” type of car. When the suspension is in tip top shape there’s nothing as solid, strong and deliberate, performance wise at that price range. That being said as everyone has already mentioned, unless you’re willing to DEAL with the “A” part of the Q, I’d set my sights on that nice BBS black one. It looks really nicely taken care of.
