Hi all, first post here.

Just bought my grandparents 98 q45 with 170k on it. Checked over the car today to see what all is wrong with it, found a few things I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or tips and tricks. The 2 big things is a cracked Radiator and malfunctioning fuel pump. The Radiator is no big deal but I know the fuel pump is a pain. Aside from that, it just has some worn Belts and pulleys and hoses. Also needs a fan clutch. The air intake seems a bit restrictive to me, is there a kit to connect the air temp sensor to a cone filter or something along those lines? Are there any other performance mods you guys would suggest, also this is my new daily driver so I want it to be smooth and quiet and im not too worried about high performance so much as reliability. I've seen some people suggest external transmission oil coolers, do you feel this is necessary?

Welcome to NICO!

The fuel pump is located on the fuel tank, between the back seat and the trunk. I've never done a fuel pump on a second gen Q but I can't imagine it's that hard, probably 2-3 hour job. You may be able to access it entirely from inside the trunk, not sure if there's access from above from inside the cabin.

The belts and pulleys are straight forward. If you want to save a little money you can replace just the bearings in the pulleys if you have access to a press. I've done it myself a few times and it's way easy. New pulleys are about $100 each, versus $15 for bearings. The pulleys are made from metal so they won't wear. Same thing with the fan clutch, really straight forward to replace that.

I wouldn't change the intake, you won't gain anything there, just keep a fresh filter in the airbox and call it a day. There's not really a lot of performance stuff out there for this car that really truly gains HP. There are some suspension things you can do to tighten things up.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Ill try pulling the bearings instead of replacing the whole thing. Good to know about the intake, i forgot to mention that there is tape over the bung for the temp sensor and it looks like someone relocated it to the other side (towards the back of the car), i have no idea why that was done. im guessing i have an air leak there so i will probably just replace everything before the airbox. Thanks for the advice on performance upgrades, im happy with what the car does right now and i like that its a quiet and smooth ride. The suspension was completely replaced within 5 years ago so its rock solid. I actually have a 85 volvo 244 that i turboed as my project car, so performance stuff is going in the volvo haha
