Hi,

I'd like to replace the bose head unit in my Q45 with a 6 disc changer from a Maxima (95-99).

Does anyone know how to take the existing one out?

Will the Maxima unit fit in directly, or wil I need some converter?

Can I put in an Ipod input?

Search for a few threads about swapping Nissan/Infiniti OEM Bose units. There's an adapter needed for some and there's a guy on NICO that created an AuxIn iPod adapter, but it used the external CD Changer connection on the rear of the HU. My guess is a 6 disc changer HU won't have the necessary plug for an Aux-In.

To date we haven't found any Nissan/Infiniti OEM Bose units that won't fit, as long as they're the standard Double DIN size.

Removal of yours should be pretty strait forward.

1) Remove shifter bezel by lifting from the rear, be careful not to break off the tabs that hook under the ash tray.2) Disconnect window switches, move shifter bezel off to the side. I lay it upside down in the passenger seat to not scratch the leather.3) Remove the 4 screws in the corners of the opening created by removing the shifter bezel.4) Remove the ashtray, should be 2 connections.5) Remove the 2 screws exposed by the removed ashtray. They're up at the top of the ashtray opening.6) You should know be able to remove the panel that runs from the rear edge of the shifter opening, to up over the HVAC controls and over to the steering column. It's held in by a series of tabs, be careful not to break any of them. Usually helps to get them all loose the angle the section out to "untuck" it from the steering column. You'll need to disconnect a couple wires (rear def button I think??)7) Remove screws (4, maybe 6) that hold the HU and HVAC controller in place. You'll need to reach into the dash and disconnect both (1 for HVAC, 3 for HU) before pulling it too par out. Have keys handy in case you need to shift the car out of Park to clear the dash.

I think that's pretty much all the steps. Reverse the order to put it all back.

If you find any inaccuracies, let me know and I'll update this as it was from memory.

Check to see if the connectors will fit the Q45 connectors.

Here is an auction with some pictures.

The connectors don't fit. I had to purchase a harness adapter when I did my swap in the my 95 Q. It cost $35 from cartereohelp.com. I can post pics if I can find my camera. Give me a few minutes.

There's a $15 (or less) part from Nissan that will work. Search for a post by Jesda with the PN in it. Pretty sure the adapter was designed to add a single DIN CD to a single DIN HU in the 300zx.

It seems to work a lot better on 94+ Qs, since the amp equalization is a bit different. On my 92 it was just weird, with overloaded bass and fake-loud highs.

Just get a 300ZX "sub harness" (what was just described in the post above) to convert the connector. Courtesy Nissan or Infiniti of Scottsdale should have it.

...sorry it took so long. Wifey came home with a list of stuff I was supposed to have done yesterday.

Before...

The harness I bought...

After...

Of course, you want to be sure that your CD player actually works. That one didn't. But I only paid $45 for it, so I wasn't surprised.
