AT 5.45p.m. this evening my Q was functioning perfectly except for a slight brake problem. Soon after that was fixed and the car test driven the gears will not shift into any ohther position other than Park. I find this pretty much disturbing. Any one with an idea on this problem? Will really appreciate your help. Thanks everyone contributing in anticipation.

Your description is unclear! Are you saying the shifter will not come out of park when you depress the brake pedal............how about when you use a tool to disengage the safety shift lock mechanism======= proceedure found in owners manual.

Please start with a detailed description the "slight brake problem" and what was done to repair it.

Then tell us the exact behavior in concise declarative sentences of the transmission or selector that is malfunctioning.

Ekure- I think Tech and Maxnix are hinting that your brake issue and repair may be related to your transmission shift problem. As you know, the brake pedal has to be depressed in order to shift out of park and a sensor, relay or switch (not sure which or what) communicates between the two components. The shift lock (underneath the plastic cap you sold me thank you), allows you to shift out of park (dead battery, tow, etc.) overriding the relay/sensor/switch mentioned above. If you can get it out of park using the shift lock mechanism then chances are your transmission's OK and the problem is related to your brake issue/repair. Let us know what your brake repair involved. Good Luck.

My brake light on the dash was showing red. I checked and discovered that the brake master cylinder was leaking because each time I topped the brake fluid the light went off. I then went on to replace the brake master cylinder, after which the mechanic bleeded the brakes. Took the car on a test drive and everything seemed fine, with all the gears shifting nicely. Not long after, while the gear was in park, it would not shift into any of the other gears.Following a response from Mike on this forum, I depressed the shift lock mechanism and the gear came out of the park into other gears. I have tried this a number of times and it worked, unfortunately, the shift lock spring is now stuck inside and does not work anymore, effectively bring me back to where I started if not worse. What could be going on?
