Hi All,I have been an on-again off-again member in this board since I bought my '97 Q45 about 5 and a half years ago. I have driven about 100K miles on it (20K/year) and it now reads 130K on the odometer. I have done religious 'all fluid' flushes every 30Kmiles and the last one was at 95K. Transmission and engine run on synthetic (mobil 1). Car didn't need any repairs and runs just like before, in the california weather. Here is my question. I want to keep this car until it dies on me and I know I can have another 130K miles on it if I do the right maintenance at this point. I remember many useful posts in this board (or the older board) where all the 'extra' pro-active replacements that can be done at this time (100K) for preparing for another 100K. E.g., I remember q45Tech mentioning to replace all rubber hoses even though this is not part of regular 100K service. What else, is my question... I think this will help one and all.

As a proposal, we can have 3 types of service lists, depending on how long one wants to own the car, budget availability, risk taking characteristics and other individual paramters.

1. Bronze Service - Minimum replacement requirement 1.1 all fluid flushes 1.2 spark plugs 1.3 belts 1.4 etc...

2. Silver Service - Bronze + some important replacements 2.1 Fuel filter 2.2 Valve tuning 2.3 etc...

3. Gold Service - Silver + some other 'far thinking' replacements 3.1 Suspensions, bushings 3.2 While replacing belts, also replace oxygen sensor & water pump? 3.3 all rubber hoses 3.3 things like that...

I know that not all will agree to all items being in what category, but at least, if everything is listed, some people can pick and choose which ones they would like to get done.

Any help I can get in this matter will be really really valuable. We just had our first baby and he is going to travel primarily in this car. I would like to keep this car as safe and dependable as possible.

cheersPhal'97 Q45, 130K miles

Hey phal!!!!!! Glad to see you posting again, i think i remember you from "way back when".....

I pretty much agree with what youve said, however, there is nothing in the valve train that needs tuning.. if you mean, by cleaning them by doing some carbon removal or whatever, then ill agree...

Dont forget good brakes and good tires!!!!!! Good brakes are useless without good tires, and good tires are useless without good tires...

Looks like I have a good bit of this done at 94k! Within the past year I've replaced:

spark plugsall beltsmost fluids except coolant, power steering and diff.fuel filtershocks, springs, bushingsO2 sensors (1.5 years ago)Brembo front rotors and Wagner ThermoQuiet pads (rear brakes were done 2 months before I bought from dealer, at dealer).

I still need to replace lower control arms as you can not get the ball joints alone.

I, for one, being an Infiniti 'n00b' would love to see a conglomeration of all this information in a booklet type form, (web booklet even, PDF, etc) so that I could learn really quickly what I need to be looking for and what not. I drive 35 miles to work every day (one way) and that means a *lot* of miles on an already loaded '99 (138K), but since the car is in good shape now (AFAIK) I want to learn everything "quickly" soI can be prepared to maintain the car starting yesterday.

I'd even be willing to help compile the info, though my time online currently is *severely* limited.

That is exactly the idea, John. I am compiling the list into an spreadsheet (see the draft attached). There are many more that I simply cannot remember, but I have read about those services in this forum over the years, but it is almost impossible to search for. I would really like experts here (aka q45Tech and others) to have a look at this and give their input.

This file can then be put at an 'always available' site in this forum for everyone's use.

First thing, go back and read all of Q45tech's posts, and you will realize you have omitted a lot of preventative maintenance prodecures that will delay parts replacement for major systems.

Secondly, for a G50, maintenance is described in intervals of 3750 miles, and multiples thereof. Thus, there is no 100K mile service per se. The major services occur every 60K miles, the next most major at intervening 30K intervals, etc. down to the minimum 3,750 mile oil and filter change and inspection.

Umm, not to be whiny, but:

zer...id=12

Specifically:

User Statistics

5794 posts (4.35 posts per day on average)

That's a *lot* of reading. However, narrowing it down to, for example, posts that relate to *my* car specifically would be a good thing.

@Pnanda - I took a look at your file - I am pretty positive that within 6 months I am going for a gold service - or at the very least planning for several stages that will lead to a final gold service on my car.

Education is experience gained economically. Q45tech's post are always informative. He doesn't care about post count.

Read a hundred posts a day (and follow the links) and you will know more than 99% of the service techs in less than 2 months.

Q45tech doesn't and will never own a FYG33. His observations are more theoretical and universal, with applications for the G50 in particular so noted. Gotta think beyond the FSM. It is just the preamble to the world of Q45tech.

No doubt! Get out the duct tape, wrap around head... your only chance of finding the peices of your skull after your brain explodes.

BTW johngalt, Tech took about a 6 month leave of absence, so that average post per day count is amazing with that in mind!

personally I prefer the paper bag method, but to each their own...

Best way to read the old posts is just to start at the beginning and work your way foreward.. Dont forget infiniti general, even though that forum isnt as busy as it used to be, its still got a TON of old posts.
