I'm going to do transmission flush at Firestone, Quote from their printout:

Transmission fluid service with filter total: 123.92 transmision fluid 10.00 T634 A/T Filter kit 56.92 Labor 55.00 Waste disposal fee 2.0

Should I order parts like filter, gasket, o-ring for 97 q45t or it's ok to use their parts? Thanks

The price for the filter seems pretty high! On the other hand, $10 for transmission fluid is dirt cheap (probably not a good thing). Check with Scottsdale for the filter/gasket, and consider taking in some Mobil1. Also, what would they do if you don't bring them a gasket?

There is a place that I goto in Portland, Oregon that only charges $56 for the same service you just listed. Firestone in my experiance is a rip-off. They got crappy tires and lousy service. Oh...and their prices just plain suck! I had a couple of guys at a local Firestone fired because when I went to get a free brake job evaluation done, they messed with my radio and was playin the stereo MUCH louder than I listened to it...possibly damaging something. Plus I caught them looking in my trunk to see what kinda sub I had!!! The manager screamed his head off at the 2 chuckle heads and fired them on the spot. I got a few free oil changes out of that at least.

I was going to bring AT myself anyway.

ouch! :) Yeah, I see. Their price is almost the same as dealer's. Anyway, I'm still shopping around.

By the way, they eagerly matched price against TireRack on great Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP tires, which is not bad at all.

Care to share? What kind of flush/fluid exchange machine?

Please email me with the details.

I replaced the tranmission fluid on my '97 Q45t last month. There was a line (I think it was the fuel line) that blocked some of the tranmission oil pan bolts. I had to remove some of the "fuel" line brackets in order to access to those tranmission oil pan bolts. It was a tough job but I finally got all the bolts out. However, I did not replace the filter and the gasket because the stupid Expressautoparts.com send me the wrong tranmission filter kit. So all I did was put the new fluid in. I did a little research later and found out they sent me the kit for the QX4 or J30 or I30 I forgot. I had learned a great deal not to buy from anyone else other than the dealer or dealer's website. I think the tranmission job at Firestone for $120 is a rip-off. I found on a local Infiniti dealer's website in Houston a deal of $139 for flushing and replacing the tranmission fluil, including tranmission additive. I believe that you can find the same deal in Dallas.

I have had only good experiences w/ my Local Firestone.I have never found an actal transmission <flush> for under $110.

Pan drop+ transmission filer w/ partial refill I can find in 40-80 price range incl fluids.

On a flush a Q needs 12-14 quarts depending on machine. The ATF alone costs no small amount of money.

Fred...:)

I paid about $250 for my transmission flush (92 Q45), which included 14 quarts of Mobil 1 provided by the shop (they went to a store a picked it up) but no filter service. It was $95/hr, but done at a highly experienced performance shop in Brentwood, MO.

Thats odd, the trans holds 10.5 quarts. Did they drop the pan, put in 4 fresh quarts and then flush with the other 10?

Thats what I assume, or they flushed until it was bright red, or flushed extra just to be sure. They went by whatever documentation they had on the computer.

Hi Airmen:

I have a 95 Q. with 167,000 miles on it. At 163,000 miles, I had the Mobil one automatic transmission fluid flush at Econo lube. $129 including tax.

I am suggesting that you consider a very thorough flush instead of dropping the pan and replacing the gasket (assuming there are no leaks).

The 95 Q’s filter is simply a pickup with a mash screen similar to kitchen wire colander but not woven as tightly. The filter is more like a screen than an actual filtering device. Since the design only lends itself to screening out large particles that may have accumulated over time most if not all of these particles will drain out when you remove the plug.

In my case, the technician removed one of the lines running to the radiator and inserted a hose over it. Then he retrieved a white oil filter and proceeded to flush the system until both him and I agreed that the fluid flowing over the white oil filter was completely red indicating a very thorough flush and using more than 20+ quarts of Mobil 1 ATF. (I thanked him and showed him my appreciation for his time and extra effort).

I am not trying to disagree with others that have given you advice. I am just relating my personal experiences.

My transmission went from sloppy shifts to new-car performance.

Yours truly.

Takes 14 Qt.s to flush teh transmission, 4 qts. to flush teh PS.

3 6 packs of M1 ATF can make your car very happy!

A lot of people think the screen traps nothing, but Q45tech cut into one and observed it under a microscope and lo, what did he see? Trapped particles! So changing the screen and wiping down the depsoits on the pan bottom do serve a function. Should be done at least every second flush or 30 K miles minimum.

How did your contaminated fluid appear? I like the Sun machine that uses clear hoses so one can easily compare the outgoing fluid color to the incoming fluid color.

If your shifts improved that dramatically, I guarantee that you had significantly degraded fluid and you still have deposits on the inside of your pan and dome in your screen filter.
