I'm driving a 94 Qbase. Last night I drove home from work (approximately 30 minute ride) Got out of the shower and was going to leave, when I found my car won't start. I checked the battery, found it was putting out about 582 CCA so I had it charged. I also noticed the starter relay would flash. I replaced the starter relay and it is still flashing...whats my next step and what can I do to eliminate individual components...I suspect it may the the neutral (park) safety switch.

Thanks

New question...After looking through the FSM I am seeing that part of the anti theft system is a key cylinder tamper switch. I think it is worthy of mention that sometimes my door key does not open the door without me jiggling the key or wiggling the cylinder up or down a little bit. Could this tamper switch be tripped by this and kill the vehicle? I know that sounds like a long shot but worth asking...also if it matters I do have a stereo system (definitely more powerful than the factory but battery is testing OK)

Do you have an aftermarket alarm, or starter interference of any kind?

Alarm is factory, no kill switch or other starter interference, that I am aware of.

I would see if you could get a new key cut from your Infiniti dealer. It sounds like your key is very worn out. Do you have a valet or spare key you can try out? In the meantime, my 240SX has this problem, it sits there and just does one click. If I bump it several times it starts. Sometimes it starts first turn of the key, but not very often. Oddly after the car has been driven, stopped and then started back up shortly after (less than 30 minutes) it almost always starts first turn of the key.

OK So today was my first day off and the first real chance I got to really spend time on the Q. As it turns out, I cleaned the key, and used a spray duster to clean the lock cylinder and sure enough...my baby fired up on the first try! Thanks guys!

I might give that spray duster a try for my 240SX. Just how dirty was your key?!

Not dirty enough that I took the suggestion seriously, to be honest. I thought the key was fine.

Same issue here. I'm going to try this key/lock cylinder cleaning trick and will let you know what happens.

Bummer. Didn't work for me.

When I unlock the door, the security light stops flashing. When I turn the key in the ignition, regular dash warning lights come one and the security light starts flashing again. I've tried an alarm reset procedure that says to put the key in the ignition, do not turn key then remove key. Lock doors--security light is supposed to light for 30 seconds. This does NOT happen. The security light on the dash never stays on solid, it just keeps blinking.

Any suggestions?
