My wife and two of her colleagues (ladies) came home early yesterday to go to a Dodger game against the Braves. So we were gonna take the Q since it’s the 4 seater. I get in it; turn the key and all I get is that fuel pump LIKE sound. It will not even turn over. If the battery is weak or bad it should at least turn over or do that crrr crrr sound. The lights were fine, the horn was a little weak though. My fuel pump is brand new, as I changed it last summer. I wanted to know, before I take it in if this has ever happened to any of you guys.

Try the shift lockout. Put the car in "N" to see if it will start then.

Red Tops do go bad, but the car should turn over.

Check the fuses, too.

The hum sounds like a short somewhere.

naw because the pump also runs while your turning the key, on high speed. the pump does make noise at hight speed.

I agree with your first idea too, i was going to suggest that as well..

A couple of weeks ago I was doing 75 on the fwy when I heard a sound like a flat tire but the car felt fine. It ended up being the black cover that you unscrew to do the oil changes. It just snapped off and by being dragged around really scratched up the underneath of bumper. Anyway, it's been raining like crazy in SoCal the last month. Could the fact that the cover is not there any more, be the cause of a short in the electrical somewhere?

You put your finger right on it!

The belly pan helps draw air through the radiator. Recommended to keep it on since the cooling system is not oversized.

Got it!

As far as the car not starting though, do you think that the "pan belly" not being there has anything to do with it, letting water through and what not?

At the risk of oversimplification, it does sound like the neutral safety switch if the above worked...
