Talk about bad luck

I was drinving home last night and I went around this corner and caught some ice i then proceeded to slide into a fence. Im pretty sure the front bumper is shot along with the drivers headlights and fog lights. I went over a curb so im pretty sure i bent somehting. I had the Q lookin and running so well. Oh and the fence is estimated at 2100, so I guess it time to open a claim, can we say ouch on my insurance rates.

If I can get some more estimates and maybe just pay out of pocket so I dont get screwed by insurance, but I will have a messed up Q

Sorry for the rant but I knew you guys would understand

Sorry to hear about your Q. My wife once did a 720 off the highway down into the grassy portion of a cloverleaf. Black Ice!

Check your insurer's rate and rule for what might affect your rates or not. You can always call your agent.

For example, losses under a certain dollar value are not charegable, and therefore would not affect your rate (basically definition of chargeable).

When my wife backed in to my Q, I kept the loss under $1k, and it was not chargeable. Over $1k would have had some negative underwriting ramifications, i.e. higher premiums.

Fences are a beiotch... totaled out a 91 Maxima taking it through one backwards. Hopefully things will work out well... in my case the cop charged me with "too fast for conditions" but said he'd drop the ticket with a letter from an ASE certified tech. After we found the quarter sized hole in the left front tire's sidewall, I was able to get the ticket dropped.

In SC (at least at that time) the accident couldn't have an impact on my rates if there was a ticket issued and then dropped or found not guilty in a single car accident. The woman working in my State Farm office wasn't happy when she realized they were paying out over $13K with no rate increase!

Maybe it damaged your power steering pump? :)

Glad you're feeling OK... the only injury I sustained in my wreck was a badly bruised hand when I punched the fence a few minutes later when the radiator blew... then I felt stupid and hurt too!

I understand totally. Back in August I rearend a minivan resulting in almost 7k of damage. Kicked myself in the a$$ for a week. To top it off my boss backs into the rear driver's side door & quarter panel about a month after repairs were completed. Of course I didn't pay for that one. Just got her back last week.

No, Tory!

Dammit - Glad you're OK. Sorry to hear about your gal's snout. Hope you don't take too big a hit on the insurance. Get her fixed right, though.

Keep us posted, & be safe.

Ok heres a update

I take it into the body shop today, my insurance company has prefered body shops that act as the adjusters and set everyhting up so thats nice.

Heres my question do I slip the guy whos estiamting the damage a 50? and what do you guys think would be the best way to do that? I just want them to take care of her while she is getting fixed and maybe fix some more stuff for me.

I was also thinking about trying to find out the tech that would be working on my car and maybe take them out to lunch or slip them some $$ as well.

This body shop is one of the more expensive, but it has one of the best reputations in denver.

Work it Tory - Don't be ashamed or nervous. Let the shop owner know EXACTLY what you plan to do - He'll appreciate your honesty and concern for your car.

Make sure you tack on the cost of a full 4-wheel alignment to whatever the estiimate is.

Yeah, or you could wear something sexy and.... :D

I'd wait and slide the $50 to the repair guy. Estimating is pretty cut & dried. Make sure the estimate covers EVERYTHING.

Well the estimator guy is also the claims adjuster for the insurance company. SO maybe 20 to him and 20 to the tech

I'm with Hitman. The estimator might view it as a bribe, the tech will just see you as a good guy.

Update

Well They finally called and gave me the estimate.

They are charging the insurance sompany 5100 for new bumper headlights and ect. They wont use Joe to try and save me some money =(

They also want to charge me a additional 900 to fix the dents and rock chips, I knew I had rock chips but I never really saw many dents.

This is kinda discourging they think its a old car so they are trying to screw me!!!!!

The estimator guy is always saying well since its such a old car blah blah i just want to smack him!

DO you guys have suggestions on what I should do?

The estimate sounds about right for a front end hit. You'll probably have to kick some in to get everything right. If they total it, what could you get with that money vs keeping your Q and getting it fixed? Another one of those personal decisions only you can make. I'd keep mine, but it's lower mileage than yours. Good luck.

I asked about totaling it and Im pretty safe there Im just trying to figure if I pay the 900 for the paint and stuff of maintenece. I really leaning towards maintence since Im almost done with the big stuff.

Ah decisons decisons, but I keep going back to what Q45tech said a while ago

Totally agree! Inflation has been small but steady since 1994 and approximates 29-33%, so to keep current dollar prices the same, you must decontent [save costs somewhere by 33%]. a 94 Q should cost $66,500 today with the same equipment!Since 1990 we have had 48% inflation so a $38k 1990 Q should cost $56,500 similarly equiped.

Tory: You don't HAVE to go to that shop!

Get the check for $5100 and shop it around - Find a place that will do ALL the work for that price (shouldn't be hard to do). Order your own parts from Joe to save even MORE $$$$ and to hell with the estimator guy - Tell him to go screw himself (in his Ford Aspire).:D

Well I called them and the 5100 is only for that body shop i would have to get it restimated and they would pay the shop directly.

What to do what to do, I freeze up when i talk to them and such i forget what to say and i get intimidated way to easily.

Hmmmm - I'd call an accident attorney (free consultation, you just have a quick question).

I think you have the right to choose your shop, and when you GO to that shop, you let them know: "My insurance company is paying for the damage to the front. I, however, want some minor additional work done. Can I count on your shop to do the additional work as a function of getting this business?"

Otherwise, sounds like you're gonna wind up going out-of-pocket. Last damage to my car, I got the estimate at the dealer. Then my ins. co. cut me a check and I took the car to a shop owned by a friend - Got more than my money's worth.

Get it fixed, let insurance pay for it, then drop collision & comprehensive coverage at the next renewal period. Cars are never quite the same after a repair, so if something happens again and you're at fault, it'll probably be totalled for sure.... saves you the frustration of getting little to nothing for the car when the time comes.

I had a run-in with ice and learned my lesson. Once you learn a lesson, you drive like a granny in nasty weather.

Just talked to the body shop the car almost finished! They are just waiting on the Headlights, foglights, grill, and moldings.

They repainted the whole left side, hood and right fender, took every dent out and rock chip. They also fixed my passanger door as the hinges were shot and it didnt shut right (her aunt said it was a early wedding present!!)

So hopefully friday I will get my Q back and it will be like new. I will post pix when i have them taken
