I have been searching through the archives, but am not able to come to a definitive answer as to who the best vendors are regarding the Q's. Can someone post some links to vendors that cater to Infiniti? Specifically I'm looking for suspension pieces, just in case I'm able to buy the Q that I think I want. Sorry to ramble.

Andy

You'll want to stick with stock suspension replacement parts (if it even needs anything). Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale has the best prices for NICO members.

So you wouldn't recommend lowering the car then? No Eibach springs for me!

Actually, it can be done but it jacks with your alignment and susp geometry... Dennis (Q45tech) has Eibachs (but he also changes tires like he changes underwear).:D

Fred's got Eibachs and I don't think he wrecks tires, does he? I suppose it would also be detrimental to the HICAS, wouldn't it?

HICAS is only on the t's.

I am happy with the combination of Eibachs and Blues. Also we used to have a NICO store that offereed all these things a good selection, that was well- matched to our models.

But SpeedDoctor became too busy to keep it up and I am not sure how great our volume was with it, but I miss it and I think our now much greater volume could carry a NICO store again.

The website that autostick's car is on says it's a "Q45a" and that it has four-wheel steering. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong.

He didnt write it in correctly. The "a"'s have active suspension but never HICAS, conversely HICAS equipped cars are "t" models which never have active. His trunk lid reflects neither, I suspect its a base and he may be unsure of what the actual package is.

Lowering the car will change the neutral camber a little, so to compensate use shims or washers under the upper link bracket. Also, all the rotational sleeved bushings will be stressed and will wear out a bit faster unless you loosen all bolts and re-tighten after installing the springs. Not a big deal, but I bet most shops wouldn't bother.

The stock Front negative 0.7 degree camber is already on the extreme side for a passenger car! The extra negative 0.8 degrees that Eibachs add is a pretty severe shock to 90% of the tires you can buy. Actually no passenger tire can stand it for long but the best performance tires can usually last 15-20k if rotated.

If I listen carefully on a quiet night I can hear the ping, bing, pop of hundreds of little internal steel threads giving up ther life so I can drive!

Many of the unlowered Q out there are bent from year of abuse and it is not unusual to see a negative 1.5 to 2.0-2.5 with stock springs.

Does anyone know, if the 4.08 diff fits the 97-01 generation as well?I know there is a chip available for those...

I crave a newer modle year car but I dont want to lose any performance over my 91 as it is now (am getting a 4.08 for the 91 as we speak I think).

I think a 97-01 would still be plenty quick w/ a chip and a 4.08 rear diff and I could enjoy a very late model car at fantastic prices.

The 97 4.1 already has a 3.69 [>4%] in place of the 3.538 to raise the revs so that it can cruise with the 9% lower torque published at 2,000 rpm.

How do you put a chip in an OBD2 ecu which doesn't use a chip for WOT but calulates the correct mixture on the fly?

Take one look at the 97-01 exhaust headers to feel dejected.

Nothing but supercharging comes even close to cubic inches and losing 25 is nothing but bad.

I just drove my pop's car 500+ miles around LA and than from LA up to the Bay Area. While my I do see a bit of a difference in WOT overall the 97 isn't exactly SLOW as it sometimes portraited here. I'd say there isn't a HUGE difference between them and there were lots of things in that 92' that I missed from my 97, like a CD changer, more comfy seat with lumbar, seat warmers, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love this 92 alot and I'm buying it from dad for the wife (but I will borrrow it liberally) the 97 is still one damn nice car for the money. I get lots of compliments on it and people that ride with me think "it is like a jag or a benz". I still like my stying with Touring garb more than any other Q on the road including the new one (but I like that interior more).

So the is the final word on replacing shocks to leave the springs as is? Are 10 year old springs still good to go, or should I get Infiniti ones versus eibachs??

Springs usually last quite a bit. Unless they're rusted I can't see why you'd have to replace them. My (11 yo) Camry has original springs and after replacing the shock absorbers, it handles like brand-new. Best thing would be to leave the stock springs alone. Eibachs are pretty expensive and hurt ride quality.
