A good friend just purchased a 92 Q, the previous owner told him the car shifts really firm 1st to 2nd gear, he told him he will sell it to him cheap because of this, he paid next to nothin for the car that is in other wise nice shape, I checked the transmission fluid and it is a brown looking color and feels very watery, it shifts 1st to 2nd like it has a serious shift kit in it, and the 2nd to 3rd shift does not happen until you let up on the throttle and then it slides into 3rd, can these be symptoms be caused by this thin fluid? he is getting a remaned from Infiniti but wants to try and flush it with Mobil1 until the end of the month, I tried to find any transmission codes but wasnt sure of the procedure.

Thanks

Be sure to clean oit pan and fnew filter first before flush may push sludge thru the entire unit.

Also might install a transmission cooler, as that can restrict passages too!

1. Apply parking brake2. Shift into D3. While turning trip reset counter clockwise (I think, it might be clockwise), turn the ignintion to ON4. Display should say AT CHECK5. shift into 3, and fully depress and release the accelerator6. shift into 27. Shift into 1 and fully press the acclertator

It will now run the check and display codes.....

I'd sure try the transmission flush - but my guess is that the damage has already been done. Worth a shot - with fluid that looks that bad, a flush may clear things up for while.

A flush, pan drop & new filter, followed by another flush 3,000 miles later revived a near dead 1990 Q transmission at 86,000 miles. Car has 106,000 and still doing fine.

I did my diff today ,installed Amsoil series 2000 gear lube, drained the power steering fluid, flushed the transmission, changed oil with the Castrol green or German as its called on the Oil forums, and installed my JWT programed ECU :D the car runs and shifts awesome.
