My wife's Q45 tends to stall at a stoplight while idling. She took it to the dealer and they are suggesting the following will be necessary to fix the problem:

Clean throttle body
replace Idle Air Control valve
replace spark plugs
replace Air Flow Sensor
Clean Fuel injectors.

They are asking $1900 for parts and labor. I can buy the parts for around $400 and spend a few hours of my time.

Does what they are stating will correct the problem sound like a reasonable solution to the problem? Am I looking at a monumental task here or rather simple labor?

Thanks

Peter

What year is your Q45? How many miles? Is the CEL on? Does it have normal acceleration or is it struggling at takeoff? Ever replaced the fuel pump? Any corrosion on the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor pins or connector? Is the connector fitting tight? Does it wiggle up and down more than a small amount? Is the idle going up and down before it stalls (1500rpm>>>0rpm>>>1500rpm)? Inquiring minds need to know.

Sounds like the stealership is throwing money at parts. Once they get you to spend the $1900 then they can start to figure out the problem. Give us a little more maintenance history and we can help.

Q45 is a 2001 with 105,000+/- miles. Acceleration is normal. No replacement on the fuel pump. Have not checked the MAF for any corrosion. Car stalls when at idle at a stoplight or in traffic. No revving up, just the idle going down and then a stall. I can prevent the stall by giving more gas with the foot on the brake or in Neutral but that isn't always convenient.

Start with a thorough cleaning of the throttle body and report back. You can do this yourself with a $6 can of T/B cleaner from any parts store, a screwdriver, a rag, and an old toothbrush.

We had paid a diagnostic fee at the dealer which we were able to apply toward having the throttle body cleaned. Now it seems to stall even more.

How about a bit more info. Any codes? Try unplugging the IAC and see if the idle cleans up...

Nothing on the warning lights. I haven't tried a code reader and the dealer did not mention anything.

I was having the same problem. I replaced the MAF and it has been fine for a week now.. Hopefully it stays that way.

Are there any updates on this? Mine is doing the same thing and I'm curious as to what the fix was.

Thanks!
