the only thing that i wont for Christmas is a q that works to its full potential i going to put the 45 in the garage for the rest of the winter. and hopefully i will get some work done in this short amount time . i am thinking about what i should do first. i have a new water pump and t stat that have to go in. new injector are next but should i do my fuel filter first. don't really know where it is.... but any way the car feels sluggish and cant put my finger on it... so some extra work may be done because when i tested for codes the first time for fuel injector problems my friend said there was none. but later down the road i ohms tested them and they where bad. then i tested for code again and no code came up .maybe the computer has a glitch??the only light that go's on is the door light and then the ok light. but wouldn't the check engine light go no with bad injectors. but still the q will get it rest and less damage can happen when its sitting because the more it on the road the more work it will need .the real reson for this post is to ask what you think i should do i means of work to the q ro restore to top shape.

"Top shape" is an elusive state of being and an expensive endeavour for a car older than my teenage daughter. Better you just try for good running condition. Sounds like you're investing a lot in that car with the transmission issue and all (I read a few of your posts). A Q fixer-upper is a terrible way to beat up your pocket. Not that all early G50's are not fixer uppers, but there are different levels.

I recently came out of pocket for a transmission too, ..the first replacement was bad and I had to eat the labor plus a second install.....but, the car has served me faithfully since 98' so I couldn't complain. Look man, I'd hate to see lose all you have invested so if you haven't done the chain guides yet, drop everything and do that first. Aside from an overheating or fluid leak problem, this should be your biggest prio.

That said... your gas filter will be on the passenger side wall about 2-3 inches away from the engine oil dipstick. It's a metal canister with a rubber hose going in and out.

if the levels are one out of ten i think its a six..it all so a 92 so it is as old as your teenager transmission was replaced like 5 week ago. i think that it's garbage so im going to have them replace it .the car wont worm up but it dosen't overheat. but how can i know if chain guide are replaced or not i have a feeling that i might have to remove alot of stuff......right .

There is actually a front plate of some kind on the engine that you can remove allowing you to view one more more of the guides. Do a search on Q45 chain guides as it' probably the most discussed subject in the infiniti forums. You'll be looking for guides made from metal and plastic versus just plastic.

The car won't warm up? That probably means that your thermostat is stuck in the open position. Hope you got warranty on the transmission. When buying a used transmission, have them drop the pan an examine the magnet to see how much depoit has accumulated. Not always a sure indicator as it could have been cleaned, but it's better than nothing.

To my knowledge that hasn't been confirmed yet. There is an "inspection" plate but it doesn't let you see the guides. There has been a lot of thought and discussion that with a lighted borescope - one could check the guides - but I haven't heard of it actually being done yet. The only method I know of is to pull the front cover to see.

In terms of ejXa's Q, I would check to see if the RTV seal around the front cover appears to be factory... as in very neat and powder blue. If it's messy and orange/black/grey - then you have a better chance of them having been done - but still there's no way (other than checking or documented service records) to know.

I agree... after Wes and I took mine apart we (and by "we", I mean Wes...as if I did anything other than hold the flashlight and look stupid) found that the Upper Passenger side was pretty easy to get on and off without having to dissasemble the entire world.

i think we have to keep this in mind when it comes to putting money into our Q's,,,,esp. the older ones (first gen's!!!),,,unless the Q you own is in COMPLETE DISARAY,,,,,it is probably cheaper in the long run to maintain and fix rather than take on a new car payment. if you do most of the repairs yourself than you are really ahead of the game. a brand new car payment of 250 a month is 3000k a year,,,if ANY of us put that into our Q now we'd be looking a VERY little, money wise in the coming years while the new car owner is putting that into the car EVERY year ( and 250 a month is at the low end of a car payment!!!). yes, the new car is under warrenty, but the Q is a very reliable car when properly maintained. bottom line is,,,a used car is ALWAYS cheaper in the long run than buying new. ALWAYS.
