Hey guys, just got done with my CA swap in my s14. Its running pretty good, the engine and turbo are super clean, its stock other than an OS Giken twin plate clutch and lightened flywheel. My question is about the turning down the booost, for some reason its boosting about 14-15 psi right now, I havn't adjusted the stock actuator or anything like that, just wondering why its boosting so high for a pretty much stock setup? Any ideas, should I just get a mbc and turn it down? I don't really want to run over 10 psi right now.

BTW, car feels fine but timing looks like its set at around 10 degrees, wondering if maybe the previous owner retarded the timing because he was running 15 psi on a stock setup, what do you guys think?

you need to chack and make sure the vac. lines are hooked up correct.going to the turbo and actuator.and i dont think you can adjust the stock one.

and where did you get your flywheel from you got a link?

Vaccum lines are hooked up according to the diagram in the faq. I have 1 line going straght from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator with nothing else connected to it.

The clutch and flywheel were with the engine when I bought it, the guy I bought it from didn't know about them though.

OK, your right, the stock actuator isn't adjustable, for some reason I was thinking it had a screw type rod like the hks one. So what could it be? The inside of the ecu looks stock, turbo is stock, although it looks like its been rebuilt, maybe different internals, not that that would cause this or anything. This isn't a spike to 15 psi, it will steadily climb and hold it before I hit redline, Ive been letting off the gas early because I don't want it too boost any higher and screw somthing up. I don't have the stock vaccum/boost sensor installed, maybe I'll hook it up and see if theres a difference. BTW, I also have a 3" turbo extension, downpipe, testpipe, and HKS hiper exhaust.

As far as the timing goes, Ive checked it 2 different ways, including the way in the faq, and its showing about 10 degrees. It sure as hell doesn't feel like its retarded 5 degrees, plugs look good, not like I'm running rich or anything. I looked at the bolt holes on the CAS to see if there were any marking from tightening the bolts anywhere else and it looks like the timing was always like this, the only marks are where the bolts are now.

mine too...i did it just like the diagram but it still boosts high, if i remember correctly it boosts to 15 only because the wastegate stops it there

So you never fixed it? Did you use the stock boost sensor? I guess a manual boost controller is the easiest way to go then.

Does anyone know what exactly controls the boost on a stock setup, is it the actuator or ecu or what?

You can't turn down the boost. You've got to have a leak in that hose or it's plugged up, or the actuator is seized or something.

The actuator is moving, I checked it, the only thing I can think of is maybe the vaccum hose going to te actuator is clogged and restricting some of the air so its making wastegate open late, I'll check that in a little while.

i started out with a manual boost controller and i thought that was the problem but when i took it out it still boosted high...even the vacuum hoses are new so they cant be clogged

I just replaced the vaccum hose between the compressor housing and actuator and clamped it down and it seems to be boosting good now, holding around 7-9 psi. I think the hose was leaking a little under boost and causing the actuator to open too late.

cool, i just replaced mine too...although my vaccum hose was tight it wasnt tight enough i guess cuz after changing it to a smaller diameter hose it only goes up to around 9 now

thanks alot guys
