My rear window does not work. Currently, the window is free to move up and down if I manually pull/push. When using the window switch I hear the motor and what sounds like the mechanism moving. I need to take a look but I'm not really sure how to get the panel off. Can anyone give me a quick lesson and possible things to look at when I get it off.

Remove door handle trim by carefully pulling it out. Pull armrest backward and remove. Undo 4 bolts. Remove ash tray. Pull out door trim to disconnect clips. Disconnect wiring. Remove door panel. Your broken item is a regulator which connects the motor to the window. It should be under $100 from Scottsdale Infiniti. If you can find a shop manual for your car, all Q's originally came with them, it will make things a whole lot easier.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've replaced three of the four regulators on my '91 Q-45. The new ones appear to be reinforced better to prevent them from breaking again. Using silicone spray on the window tracks may also prevent window drag which could be causing them to break. I didn't start doing this until after replacing my third. I suppose replacing a regulator is better than replacing a burned out or stripped motor. One last thing, you should be able to brace the window up from inside the door with a 2x4 and some foam padding so you can drive the car until the new regulator arrives. ...Mark

One more note. The regulator is a metal track which runs down the length of your door vertically. It is held on with four bolts. There is a steel braided cable (like that found on a 10-speed bicycle's brake) and gear that connects the track to the motor. Once it and the motor are unbolted (and the wires to the motor disconnected) it can all be manipulate out through the door panel hole (you will need to peel back the vapor barrier). The new regulator includes the entire track and cable assembly and needs only to be reattached to the motor and slide back in, and re-bolted in place. Then just align and fasten it to the bottom of the window glass. It really isn't that hard.

Thanks, it's really hot out right now so I'll wait till it cools down -- maybe next weekend. Sound prety straight forward. I'm wondering if there is something repairable before I send the money, so I'll do exploritory surgery. Strangely enough, my 87 BMW 535is rear window has been acting up lately too........maybe my daughter who usually sits on that side has somthing to do with it???

Thanks :)

I finally got around to taking the door panel off and what I felt in the door panel is the braided cable mentioned above. There is a lot of slack in this cable - which I assume is 'pulling' the window up and down. Before I extract the whole mechanism can anyone tell me if this symptom is something repairable or do I replace the whole assembly???

You have to replace the regulator, no repair is possible. The part should be under $100.

Normally, the window regulator is NOT repairable but I drilled out all the rivets holding the assembly together and the stepped shaft holding the cable reel drum. The cable broke near the end where it attaches to the drum. I'm reassembling the unit with $3 worth of hardware and will let you know how well it works!
