I was wondering what some of you guys thought about this deal i ran across.

Its a '91 Q45 with 150k miles. Looks clean in and out. The guy selling it says it needs some transmission work. He is asking $1950?

Deal or no deal?

I don't hang out on the Q boards much so i am not familiar with pricing and what not. I am usually in the sr or 240 forums; more familiar territory.

But i will be buying a Q soon for the wife. I drove a '98 a couple weeks ago and loved it. Man it was sweet.

Pretty much transmission replacement is $3,000 [assuming you get a factory reman]. There really is no inbetween when a transmission is over 5 years old and has problems.

We always find $3,000-$10,000 worth of work on any 90-93 brough in for a presale inspection..........but we list everything that is not functioning like new.

People get the deer in headlight syndrome, because the paint and interiors hold up well......unless white or cream/tan.

ONLY If the owner can document that the oem engine chain guide have been replaced with updated versions [$1500-$2500].

We pay $700-$900 for non running 90-93 Q as parts cars.

The point is be prepared for a BIG R&R BILL and THEN 15 cents per mile driven after that.

For 3,000 you may as well get a level ten transmission..

Ebay is full of cheap used trannys...

I am unconvinced that the level 10 is worth it, for someone that isnt doing mods.

You could mod a regular transmission to make it shift a little firmer, there are posts on here about the mods required (easy stuff)

I think that this car is a pretty good price, depending on the tranyn condition. Possibly a flush or 2 could save it, but id save it.

Off the bat, you have $3000 for transmission, and $1500 for guides, plus the cost of the car, $2000 when its all said and done, and your at 6500 just for the preliminary stuff.

Im not trying to dissuade you, but showing you the facts.

What facts?

A level ten transmission is the same price as a remanufactured one.. It is AT LEAST as good... Everyone who has one say sthey are better...

How can you compare a stock transmission to a level ten? Look at the parts the compose a level ten transmission..

It's like buying stock rotors, vs brembos.. The brembos are AT LEAST as good, and the same price.. why not go with brembo.. why not go with level ten.

That may be true, but I am still not completely convinced the level 10 will last just as long, if not longer than OEM...

It very well may, but Im still not 100%
