a few days ago, i was checking up on my sparkplugs (DE) and to my surprise.. i pulled the first cyl. plug off and it just broke off and the wire that was in the middle that was fed to the end was just frayed and looked like it's been frayed for AWHILE. nonetheless, it made a trip of about 130 miles safely from SC to GA.

i tested it to see if my inj(?)#1cyl(?) was bad by taking out the plug as a whole and it stumbled and ran like crap. i put the plug back in, with the frayed wire and it, to my surprise ran decent, but i could smell gasoline from an open door driver's seat.

so.. my question is, are sparkplug wires all like that? it ran w.o having the wire connected to the part where it connects to the plug.

i ordered some new plugs and wires so i should be good.. but i was just curious to what it can be..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

also i took my clutch fan off the other day to find out pieces of shredded metal in between the shaft and the bearing-looking thing. it still squeaks like mad when i get on the gas above 2.8k rpm and the fan is still wobbling during operation, which is making me very nervous of even starting the car.

again.. what can be possible causes of PS not working? i concluded to a bad ps rack and bought a reman. one and should be arriving tomorrow, but what eles are there that can cause bad PS?

i saw inside the ps res. and the dipstick on the cap was a bit deformed, from what, i dont know. it looked like it had melted inside the res. i checked my ps pump belt and it was decently firm.

any ideas?

good thing you've got the plug wires on order. When you pull the plug that cylinder loses all compression and doesn't fire. That would explain why it ran like crap.

No, spark plug wires are not like that with the frayed edges. They look like rubber cylinders with the end that plugs into the distributor being a rounded over at the end metal cylinder with a rubber boot.

time to replace the fan clutch.

something is causing your rack to heat up. Check your pump to see if it's still working.

i just took the old rack off and cleaned the underbody... i dont understand where all the sand came from and why the prev. owner just put a underbody coating over it instaed of cleaning it..

anyways.i dropped the rack and i guess i can say i "bled" the ps res and lines, but whats a good way to bleed the lines/pump?i just poured ps fluid in the res. and unplugged the hardlines, however the fluid is coming out pretty slowly..

i bet i pressure washed over 10lbs of grime on my underbody today...

PS bleeding, fill up the res with atf and turn the steering wheel left to right.

isnt that ^ if the ps rack is still in the car?i took mine off.. i'm just pouring atf like nothing..i might just take the entire res. off and flush/clean it with some good ol' degreaser and some purple power...
