My switch began leaking recently so I purchased a new one from Joe and got under there and started looking at things and realized that it's not quite as simple as I thought it'd be. Can anyone give me some pointers on the best way to r&r this switch?

Yeah, wear gloves and have a good list of 4-letter words handy. Why are you replacing it?

Youll probably want a deep socket... of what size I cannot recall.....

One of those offset box end wrenches may be good too... I guess goto sears and figure out what size the sender is... If memory serves, its over an inch or at least close to an inch...

Do you mean the oil pressure sending unit?

I replaced mine when I did my valve covers.

Just rent a good set of "Crows Feet" sockets or NAPA sells a socket made for the job (@6.00 same cost as the sending unit) and you'll be done in 6 mins.

Take off the tire and do it while changing your oil (less messy that way).

I used a universal adaptor on my rachets ext and it was no trouble.

Mission Complete:

I stopped by NAPA and picked up the socket and, as you said, six minutes (almost). Thanks for the pointers!

If you could post a link to the tool you bought at NAPA, that would be a good one for the archives. I struggled with mine for a couple of hours if I remember correctly. 6 minutes would be well worth whatever the right tool costs!

NAPA has the worst online catalog.I tried to find you the part number for like 20 mins no luck.I'm usre Colo won't mind pasting the size and part number.

I looked for my socket but its late and cold in my shed.

I will look some more tomorrow when it's light out.

The socket is 1 1/16" and specific to oil pressure senders. They have a really deep one (probably 4-1/2" or 5" long) and a shorter one (about 2" deep) which I bought and which fits the Infiniti sender like a glove. They sell two different "quality" of sockets also, mine is of the cheaper quality, cost me $5. I don't know the part # but can find it out in the next couple days. I tried a pic but the batteries in my digital are dead .

I remember mine (with a wrench) to be about 20 mins, once I could get my arm in there.

I really like the idea on the wheel opening, I never looked (sometimes you have to wonder about yourself).

I bet it is a 27mm. I would be surprised if it is SAE.

I would've thought that it'd have been metric as well but it's 1 1/16" for sure, seems to fit this sender perfectly. I didn't end up going through the wheel oppening, instead, I threded the socket on a u-joint on a 6" extention in between the 3rd and 4th exaust runners on the manifold and accessed it from the top with my rachet. Tight, but not as tight as reaching up from underneath to attach the wiring. is right! Not much room in there, and I have small hands!

Brian

There are things on the Q that use SAE.. o2 sensors, the oil press sensor, etc.....

You believe what you like, but once you get above 14mm SAE sizes work fine if thast what you have... I had only SAE impact sockets, and it was fine...

I was surprised, too. The old sender (made in Japan) was metric, but the new one (made in USA), was SAE. Both Nissan parts.

Sears has all sockets, including metric up to 28mm, and the one that fit perfectly was the one I got.

After you install the sender you can use this one to roll asphalt in your driveway. The next biggest thing in the Q45 would be the 24mm banjo fittings on the active valves.
