okay,so after a business meeting in the hills, i decided to take the mullholland dr instead of regular street to get home.

with a bit of rain in california, road was a bit slippery.i pushed the car's performance (being in the industry, i learned a few techniques from stunt driver friend)

the Q was amazing on corners, in straight way, i raced lexus, porsche, mercedes. beat'em all .it was pretty cool.

first japanese car i ever owned, it will never be my last.

I've looked at many new and expensive cars and they just don't compare to my old Q.

The sad thing is that it'll probably be the best car you'll EVER own.

All new cars in the past 3-4 years have gotten so numbed down with technology which has little respect for people who know how to drive.

Q45 is the near-perfect balance of ride and handling that still lets the driver drive the car.

Yes, the old Q's are quite a special buy.

To buy an equivalent car new, is lotsa bucks.

I hope that your Q lasts you. Its a great car if it does not break.

The dealer wanted $1100 on labor to replace the oil pump. I thought that was excessive.

By what measure? I imagine it is 10 hrs. labor to remove the covers and other disassembly, replace the oil pump, chain and tensioner, then reassemble it.

But it is something you may do yourself if you have basic skills, the necessary tools, and a manual. Once you have done it, it is just a time vs. money decision.

no. I am sure it is 20 hours because this guy charged $50 per hour.

My frame of reference is pretty much any american car, where replacing an oil pump would probably cost a whole $75 and some change.

Why do you need a new oil pump? They will last and meet spec to 300,000 miles if the oil was changed according to factory severe requirements....EVERY 90 DAYS! or 3750 miles whichever is sooner.

Sure it takes a shop day [10 billable hours] to change an oil pump on a $10,000 engine about the same time as it takes to change a starter on a Lexus LS400 engine [or a ZL1 32v Corvette].

My 91Q 72 k will be 13 years old in August. In the 9 years i've owned it i have replaced 1 relay and a master cylinder.and the usual brake jobs. i only did the chain guides, plenum hosed, valve cover gaskets etc because DENNIS EVANS MADE ME. i live in central wash st (desert area) no oxygenated gas and smooth freeways. the best of both worlds. i'm 64 and i think this car will outlast me. it still gets the juices flowing. valleybouy

Welcome to the board valleybuoy. You are my idol. Hope to follow your lead with my Qs, and hope to get to E WA when the spring comes for some wide open roads. Who needs "mods"?

That's hilarious! It would be interesting to know how many fewer 90-93 Qs would be on the road right now if Dennis had traded his car in 1995.
