Well, after our record snowfall last winter in Baltimore, and the resulting salting of the roads,AND our raining almost everyday this summer, the q started to rust!I noticed a small bubble in the drivers door panel near the mirror,no paint chip or scratch, grow over the last month or so,touched it today with my FINGER,and it became a hole about the size of a pencils diameter! Also found similar bubbling of the paint on drivers side rear wheel well, and inside both "dog legs" of rear door sills.Man am I angry! I have hand washed this car weekly, waxed quarterly, flushed the undercarriage regularly in the winters, and maintained the original factory paint way above what the average q45 owner does, and still this happens?I am beginning to think of all the time and $ I have put into annual fluid flushes, leather protectant, tinting to preserve the interior, parking at the end of lots to avoid dings, etc has been a waste if the car craps out to corrosion.I was planning to keep this q until it mechanically died at a very old age,and have overserviced it to help it get there, now rust is killing all my efforts! Goes in to Nationwide Infiniti tomorrow to try and take advantage of the original 84 month corrosion warranty, which, expires on September 16.Anyone else have rust issues with their Q ? are these cars known to rust in specific areas? What can I expect to be the outcome of this?Paint the whole side of car? spot paint? Or refusal to get infiniti to honor their warranty, for god knows why?

Paint and paint care aren't the problem, it's the nooks and crannies that get damp and salty underneath and stay that way all winter. I'm not sure your warranty will mean much, as they'll just spot repair and it will be rusty again in a year. Since you've been so meticulous in your maintenance, there is the option of finding a rust free car south or west with a blown motor and transfer all your running gear to it. Your good interior will come in handy, as the hot weather cars often have bad sun damage.

unfortunatly, due to my demanding schedule{realtor} that is not an option.I still think something was not applied correctly at the time of manufacturing,as I have not seen any 94-96 Q in my area with this rust problem, much less the 3 ls400 company cars of older model years at my disposal.I have been looking at similar year 740s,s-classes,ls400s,etc in my neighborhood and they are in much better shape corrosion wise than my Q.I think infiniti should use Galvinized body panels like every luxury make, their "Durasteel" is anything but---durable! come to think about it,my previous Nissans including 79 280zx,82 200sx,86 z turbo, and 94 g20,all purchased new, were showing corrosion by the time I traded them in!

My 92Q has 2 rust spots in the same location on both sides of the car. You can see them when you open up the rear doors, it's on the bottom of the door sills, not on the doors. The driver side is just starting to happen but the passenger side is bad. Last summer I ground out the bad part and treated it with a rust encapsulator. It is still holding pretty well. BTW, this was bad surface rust, not deep rot.
