Just recently dropped full coverage on my '91Q, reasoning that as the value of the vehicle diminishes, the less damage it will take for the insurance co. to "total" the car if it is involved in an accident. I can afford full coverage, but I'm afraid that it is money wasted. Guess I will just have to roll the dice and stay out of trouble.

Any thoughts.

May want to ask your company what the car is valued at, and ask if they offer a higher value policy.

I have that on my Q, since it's worth a lot more to me (and anyone who might want to buy it) than what the "book" says. Not a significant difference in price IIRC.

I say it's a good idea. I did the same thing on my '92 Q. It only affects the payout if the car is totalled and you are at fault. If the other party is at fault then their insurance would pay you for value of the car (maybe $3000 if you're lucky).

I dropped comprehensive too. Making a claim against comprehensive can make your rates go up. If a window broke, I'd pay for it myself. If I had hail damage or something I would not fix it. I don't fear a stereo theft unless I had an aftermarket unit.

i have geico, and when i put my Q on the policy, the rep talked me out of full coverage. the reasoning was the book value vs. what it would take to total the car. i went with basic liability (have three cars on the policy, 91 sentra, 93 mustang gt, and the Q----$63 a month). i'm in the process of selling the 'stang, and thought about putting full coverage on the Q, but maybe that's a bad idea. i'm going to have to think about it!

I just dropped full coverage on my 90Q...... basic coverage is 240 year versus 650..... plus I am giving this car to my 16 year old...so the insurance for him will be much cheaper....

yeh...I know a 16 year olds first car is a Q...but for those who have been following....the transmission is slipping in OD..... runs great , though...

I have a good mechanic, that can do just about anything on the Q. With my contacts here, and him, I can fix just about any damage that might happen.

I have full coverage, with a $500.00 deductible. It is only about $80 per month, and I can't replace the Q, for what I might save, by going to Liability only.

I plan to keep the car for at lease 2 more years (It should be at 300,000 miles), when I will replace it with another '94 Q (or a 2003 M45).

Whatever AZhitman can get me, for a great price.
