Allright, finally got my(just purchased) 90Q home from the guide replacement, plugs, hoses, belts, oil pan clean, re-seal valve covers. 3 large chunks of the driver side guide found in pan, thank god it didn't get caught up elsewhere! absolutely love the car, the ride is incredible and it looks almost brand new. The few friends who have seen it can't believe it's a 90, one I think has been converted to the Q! Anyway, I still have couple of items to address. The tech told me about a slight vibration at highway speeds, says the driveshaft is in early stages of going. Was told that according to infiniti, it's un-servicable, have to get a new driveshaft. True? Also, the trans was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. He noticed that when cold, there is slight slippage, when warms doesn't happen. I noticed on the 75 mile, highway drive home, there seems to be a very slight, surge or let up, hard to tell. Only for a split second and seemed to happen once every minute or two, but very slight and the tach didn't move. Didn't seem to do it as much with the cruise. The trans was warrenteed and is only over the period by about a week! Do I have any options. Would really appreciate any input from you guys! Lovin' the car and plan on keeping her for a long time. Would love to hang with you guys in the 200k plus club!:help

1) Congrat!!! you are very lucky someone above wants you to keep this car!2)I cna relate my first Q has started a love affair with these cars that continues unabated even though by now I can afford some pretty spendy new cars3) get him on this board.4)Yes and no, That the driveshafts can cause vibrations when worn, but they never "go" meaning the vibration is the only symptom of a used driveshaft and there is no safety issues. Its never gonna leave u stranded cuz of a worn driveshaft. Also it could have many other causes (do you trust your tech to actually inspect the driveshaft or did he just notice teh vibration and said "drveshaft going") like worn motor mounts, worns transmission mounts (kinda cheap) and of course unbalanced tires.5)+6) At what speeds did this happen? Sometimes dirty valvebodies can cause confusion in the transmission which gear to slect and it wants to shift under gentle accel than changes it mind. the rebuilder could have reused the old valve bodies. There could eb a number of otehr cauuses as well.but if you still have warranty bring it in now (!) and let them figure it out on their nickel;)

Keep us posted sounds like you are on the rigth track with everything

thanks fred, the tech is keith vanmeter, i've posted his name and number in other threads. he is an infiniti master tech, used to be shop foreman at holman in nj, definitly knows his stuff. i assume he inspected the driveshaft or at least knows from experiance. as for the slight surge/hesitation it was in the 55-70mph range when doing steady cruising. as another side note, the speedo wasn't working on the ride home. probably missed when putting everything back underneath(it worked before the guides repaired). the shop is 75 miles away, is it easy to re-connect myself and where do i look for it. i have the service manual but can't seem to locate it. thanks jeff

Sounds like you only need to spend another $5,000-$8,000 to get it close to as new mechanical shape.Back in 97 when I did the guides at 100k.......the things we found worn after what was diligent dealer service [created a massive list]......visted delear at least 4 times per year between 90 and May 97 when the extended 7/100k warranty ran out.

Unfortunately at the time of the extended warranty I didn't understand the PHYSICS of the Q.The entire Bose head/speakers were changed, the glove box, both visors, ABS, master cylinder, the transmission, the ac compressor.

When we first got our Q there was a vibration in the drive assembly. I got a "rebuilt" unit from a place out of L.A., it has worked fine, and hasn't given any trouble in about 15k miles. The yokes were machined for replaceable u joints and center bearing replaced. Don't know what Dennis will have to say about this (if anything). I belive the unit was about $450, exchange...can look for the reciept if you like. Alan

Just checking...

Does your transmission have a cooler on it? If not, get one yesterday. That is the exact reason my first transmission went out. It's only 50-100 bucks and a DIY project or so I'm told. I haven't done it myself. Listen to Fred, if that thing is still under warranty get it over to the tranmission place ASAP and make them fix it.

Good luck,

Nick :)
