The "Iron Swede" (Mrs. KingKarl: the most compelling reason why I do not sore like an Eagle") has aggressively challenged my recent DIY, catch-up maintenance purchases. I am a victim of poor timing! Today, my wife signed for the delivery for my new B&M ATF cooler from Summit and the AT gasket/filter/O-ring. Help me, how do I convince her that this is money well-spent. My wife, the Iron Swede has forcefully opined that if I posessed only 50% of the inherent intelligence of the average house plant, I would have passed on the Q. I love this car.....1998 Q45t.

Tell her that all that stuff is necessary so you don't have massive repair bills later on, and by spending some money now you will have more money to spend on her.

I had an argument with my wife when I got my Old Lady.I told her in orded for me to stop spending $$ on upgrades (there is endless opportunity when you an Off-Roader), I want to step aside from all that Jazz and settle down with a nice lux car. Bring it up to good running condition and ENJOY the life. She agreed with me, although I have spent some money (I expected that) to catch up on negligence of previous owner.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO CONVINCE HER JUST LET HER KOW OF YOUR INTENTIONS Cheers!

This a normal car specific purchase. I can see if you had to take it somewhere to have this done, it would be even more. The labor/materials to put this on far surpasses the purchase cost.

What if it needed brakes, tires, normal wear/tear type items? These usually bring down the asking price and are very cheap DIY items that increase the overall value.Every car when bought used requires a complete fluid change too.

Just plain facts... the best argument for people who like to question things. (See my signature below)

I go through this with my girlfriend sometimes. fight fire with fire is teh best option for me. "why do you need that $50 tranny cooler???" "well, why do you need a $150 hair straightener?" usually does the job, not to mention those items you're buying are pretty much necessary to avoid $3k+ of future repair bills. it's gonna need tires, not those $25.99 firestone specials, but good quality, high-performance tires that will run you at least $100 a peice. suspension on fy33s is a bit pricey too, but as always with the Q, well-worth it.

To justify something to a woman, you must first understand her "logic"

Can't help you there...

Easy. $50 now avoids $3K very soon as opposed to much later. Take her on a road trip to a romantic hideway via lots of twisty back roads.
