I read in Fiznat's great write-up on how to install spring/shock setup on a S13. He mentions that...

"Once you've got it on there, snug the bottom bolt + washer on, but dont torque it down yet. The car needs to be sitting on the ground with all it's weight down before you tighten things up. Just like putting wheels on a car."

Is that really necessary or can I just tighten everything before lowering the car back down?

Thank you!

u can torque it before lowing but make sure to recheck the torque once it is lowered to make sure the vehicle's weight didnt change anything. specifically the bolts holding the strut assembly to the strut tower. both front and rear

FSM says to tighten to spec with wheels on the ground, full tank of gas, oil, coolant at spec, etc. So....Nissan engineers should know. I'd follow Fiznat's intstructions to the letter...they're good.

Thank you guys... now I gotta figure out a way to crawl under my car to torque those nuts down...

How do I torque the nuts on the front struts by the wheel when the car is already on the ground with the wheels on?
