Car: startin to love drivin.. need a new car though! the boat just isn't cuttin it anymore!

Post

First off, its not about a nissan, I'm sorry!I needed something to drive till I can get enough money for my dream 240, so I was looking through some newspapers and found a 94 eagle talon. It was only $650, so I called the number and went and checked it out.For $650 you would expect it to be a rust bucket with no hub caps... right?Well, I was driving down the street that the house was on and I was looking for a car that might match that description. I get to the address and see a nice forest green eagle talon sitting in the driveway. The first thing I thought was "wow, these people must love talons if they have a crappy one and this nice one!" I went and knocked on the door and talked to the mother of the girl who's car it was.She told me that her and her husband had gotten the car for their daughter a few years ago and three months ago the girl went and got a car on her own. She told her parents to sell the talon and give her the money. The mom was like "I'm so sick of looking at that thing in my driveway, I told my husband to sell it for $650 so it sells faster!"

I checked the whole thing out and there was barely any rust on the engine and no rust on the body. The rust that was there was only on clamps, and it was on the serface only, and when I wiped it w/ my finger it came off a little bit...

I started it up and it started sputtering a little bit. I gave it some gas and it was fine than, but I was just wondering what was making it sputter?Any Ideas?

The gas was three months old and she said I was the first person to touch the car since her daughter parked it there three months ago... IT DRIVES LIKE A DREAM, even though there was old gas in it! It was the second smoothest thing I've ever driven (next to my friends mom's 350Z)

Do you guys think it sputtered cuz the injectors are dirty? Because the gas is old? or any other reason?

Well, all in all, I got a 94 forest green, 5spd Eagle talon for $650!

Thanks for any Ideas!and sorry for posting this here, but I needed some expert oppinions

it's been sitting for 3 months, so it's gonna do things like spit and cough for a few miles till things get reaquainted.

Also, I had an old 1gen eclipse, and it had a sputtering problem that turned into a clogged throttle body. a bit of carb cleaner later and it was fixed.

I got a carfax on a 1st gen yesterday to shop for another one for my other lil bro; that way they have something in common to learn about maintaining cars...

side note: what's wrong w/ the blazer or the lincoln towncar (screen name?)

Good find man. I been considering one of them for a daily driver myself. 650 is a damn good deal if the car is nice.

You would too if you were made by s*** and had a laundry list of possible maintenance problems.

That damn company declared bankruptcy! :jazz:

LOL! Chrystler has decided not to dump more money than they are now on Mitsubishi. Great score though. Turba or NA?

as long as it isnt the equivlent of a eclipse gsx or gsdt, you should be fine. the regular na eclipse/talons have the old neon engine in them, so it *should* be a good DD. otherwise, if its the equivlent of a gsx or gst, get redy for cheep mad par and jackstand racing. as a few friends have told me: the run a month out of the whole year, but when it runs, ****s ****in fast. then you have to tow it home.

Former friend of mine, before getting arrested for some kind of financial scandal, owned a bowling alley, night club, and car dealership. I took a first-gen DSM Talon on his lot for a test drive on day... omfg. I felt my guts fly into to the back of my body. What a rush!

Yea man those cars can be beasts. Now if only Mitsubishi could bring their reliability up to par with the other Japanese manufacturers, then it'll be gravy. Was the car you drove a TSI?

not from that year, the 1st gen NA eclipses either had a NA 4g63, or the NA 1.8 (can't remember the engine code), it wasn't untill the second gen that they started using neon engines in then (420A)
