tested a/c today - 93 degrees and about 70-80% humidity outside- center vent wouldnt go below 60 degrees when unit manually put on full fan speed/recirc. after 20 min. of 60-75 mph highway driving in full sun

interesting, our miata in same conditions showed vent temp drop to 40,then compressor cycled off till temp creeped to 46-47,then compressor back on till temp dropped to 40--over and overthe miata is also r134a equipped and has never been serviced{1999 with 91K} q was serviced last july.

44-47F is the usual situation on a functioning 90-96Q.If you manually reduce fan speed to low expect the temperature to creep down by 5F..........39F.

You can check discharge and suction sides of evaporator for temprature difference. If ther is considerable difference, you have a blockage somwhere in the system. Q is a txv system, besides all that climate controll equipment, it a basic system. Are you sure "they" serviced it correctly?Rule of thumb, the hotter it gets the more efficient a/c should be. It is all based on heat exchange. Cheers!

buy yourself a nice manifold gauge set, and you can sorta tweak the pressures a tiny bit.....

May be worth replacing drier and cleaning the evap and condensor, youre crafty enough to do it DIY.

Definitely buy an A/C manifold set. It is well worth the money if you every plan to work on your A/C. If you just have the cheapo low pressure filler gadget, even with a gauge, you just have no idea what's going on with your system. Should expect to spend about $70-100 for a decent one. I got mine at Autozone for $79 and it's got the little sightglass in the center so you can see what's flowing through it.

I just repaired mine myself, replace compressor, dryer and flush the system, and I'm getting exacly the center temps that Tech mentioned but I am at ambient of 105-115 degrees! At 60 degrees at 90 ambient you are not even close to "par" hehe. I'd call that a double bogey!

What did you use to flush your system?

It was at Autozone, think it was called "Clean and Flush" in a plastic white bottle with green lettering (same type of bottle motor oil comes in). Clear oily stuff. Says it's compatible with the R134a/PAG oil so if there is any left in the system it's not a problem.
