Hi I'm Mike from New Zealand. I have recently purchased a 1990 Q45 Infinity. For the preasant I am very pleased with my purchase. It's condition and performance are better than I have had in any car I have owned previously. Infinitis are vary scarce out here. Very few people have heard of them. The car came with no hand book or any literature for that matter by which I could refer to, to keep it maintained. At this stage I would appreciate just knowing what tyre pressure I sould pump and maintain the tyres preasures at. There is one small complication however, the wheels are not standard. The car is fitted with Japanese after market alloy wheels. 17 inch x235/45s on the front and 17 inch x 255/40 tyres on the back.

It kind of depends on personal preference. I usually run 32-35 rear and 34-38 front. You might want to go lower though, with those rims. Are there no limits printed on the sidewall of the tyre itself?

Tires probably are not of sufficient load rating (OEM minimum = 95), so you may want to change quickly before exercising hard. On 17"x8", 255/45 are usually of sufficient load rating to work. Speed rating is something else.

Welcome to the best source 0f Infiniti information in the world after the FSM.

Chally and AGM are on the next continent over, so they may respond soon.

Thanks for your reply. You have at least given me a good starting point. I will set them at your lower/mid values and then monitor the wear pattern and handing of the car as I drive. The tyres are Dunlops. The 255's were made in Japan and the 235's were made in Australia. To answer your question : no there are no pressure limits printed on the tyre. There are speed and wear ratings. Cheers Mike.

Maxnix, thanks for repling. I'm unfamilia with ( OEM maximum = 95 ). At this early stage of ownership, I dont intend to exercise the Q45 too hard until I get a feel for it's characterisics and quirks. Mind you that shouldn't take too long. Our New Zealand roads are not of the same build quality as yours. It would be fair to say that our roads test vehical steering systems and suspension pretty well. A 2nd reason for not exercising the car too hard is the problem of the timing chain followers which I have read about on these forums. I still need to track down the cars mechanical history. Cheers Mike

most 235/45 have 94 load rating, and 255/45 should be ok.....

I guess as long as you stay WELL within the tires limits (no hard cornering or excess speeds) youll be safe.....

Welcome to our forum Mike... Also, check out http://www.q45.org for more Q related info!!

Good to see another Q drive on this side of the planet.

There are also some early Q's ariving here now, under the 15 year rule, & I've driven an active suspension one here & ot was great.Tire pressures we normally run is between 34-40psi. I keep mine about 34, as 40 makes the ride a bit rough, with our pristine Goat Tracks we have here. Be careful of the Timing Chain Guides, as all those from Japan will probably have very little service history, as they seem to just drive their cars until they either sell them or they stop.

With lux cars in Japan the salesman comes and picks up the car ever 90 days leaves you an equal loaner and takes the car in for 2-3 days of intensive service.

What ever it needs to be made perfect and submits a bill to your credit card company. You never question the cost!

Yes, until they are traded after 3-4 years, then the usual non service scenario happens. We've had too many older motors turn up pretty ordinary.

In General Q45 driving in the last 4 Q45's I owned, I always liked my front pressures to be 38-39 and the rears 36-37.Depends on your roads too and of course your tires.

Tires with lower than OEM load rating would get a bitmoe and with above OEM load rating a bit less pressure from me.

Hi Mike

Glad to see we have a New Zealander on board. I had the pleasure of a 4 stop over in Christchurch S.I. a few years ago and a Brit expat work colleague loaned me his Honda Accord for the weekend. I thought the roads were great especially up to Arthurs Pass.

I am originally from Wales in the U.K. so I appreciated the green mountains and to some extent the sheep!

Regarding tire pressures I recently changed from the OEM size of 215 65's to 235 60's and would like to get advice on whether the OEM pressure recommendations are still applicable.

Mike when you get a chance post a picture of your Q

No just a Pom that likes sheep

Heh Chally just realized that the name of my town is Holden the same as the GM brand in the "land down under". Useless bit of trivia I know but that's me

Also visited NSW twice, short trips on business to mainly Sidney, Manley, Paramata, Liverpool and took the train ride up to the blue mountains. Loved Sidney and the ferry ride to Manley, awesome scenery. Stayed away from Kings Cross!! and had best and biggest shrimp ever at Hogs Breath Cafe in Bondi

Great fun trying to identify the older model Holden and Fords and seeing the styling connections with the UK models
