I searched for this topic and only found my own identical question from two years ago (yeah this website hasn't exactly been great for me...).

I have a 1994 q45 and the driver seat adjustments work except for the reline angle of the seat back. What part control's the seat back?

Thanks.

does it click when you press the button. If it clicks but nothing happens it could be a motor, or if it doesnt click it could be the door switch.

What you can do is do the self diagnosis for the LAN system, that will tell you what it is. I can speculate its probably the door switch, and you should be able to pick one up not very expensive....

Normally when the LCU's go out in the door it causes the entire door to go dead, not just one function. Besides, im not sure if that would control the seat anyway. ive never heard of the seat computers going out....

If you need help doing the self diagnosis on the seats let me know!

I am reposting to see if I can get a reply from a q45 tech.

I would try replacing the switch first, that seems most likely to me.

Wes the reason I re-posted was to get the q45 tech's input.

Thanks, I have noted your suggestion and that may well be the way I go if I don't here different from the tech.

Wes, you have anticipated correctly. In fact, I don't know how to do the self diagnosis. Is it in the shop manuals? I have those.

Someone had mentioned it was a body control module and that they control most if not all of the electronics for the car. Should I not try replacing that first?

As I have mentioned ina new post, what I would do ideally is get a new seat that would gain me some more head room...

I'll keep looking for that as I work my way through this recline issue. Thanks.

I think I have it down to 2 things.

The power seat control module located under the driver's seat (most likely) or the Body control module (bcm) in the dash. Not sure of next step...

Thanks

Don't throw $$$ at parts. If you haven't already, perform the self-diagnosis starting on page EL-78 of the FSM. It's pretty easy to do, just take your time and follow the directions closely. If you don't have a copy of the FSM you can get it here:phatg20.net

Good luck.

Those are actually the LEAST likely causes!!! I would say the switch and the LCU are the most likely causes.... Doing the self diagnosis should help or at least give us something to chew on...

ANYONE can be a Q45 savvy with some time reading the service manual!!!
