Hello all, just discovered this board. I have been an Infiniti owner since 1990 and have religiously had my car serviced at the dealer, for EVERYTHING. Since 1999, I have been in the Washington DC and I have a 3rd Generation Q-45, I call it a Q-41 due to the 4.1 litre engine. Very pleased with my car, original owner and now am thinking that my dealer is "taking me for a ride". I just returned from picking up my Q from the dealer, Passport Infiniti here in Alexandria (relatively new) for the 75,000 service. The following is printed on my Work order :

75,000 Mile service Labor $224.88

This equates to 2.5 hours. The parts itemized on the next lines are oil, filter, washer fluid, oil treatment, gas treatment, battery pads, and an element assembly. All parts pricing appear normal.

My question is this, does anyone know what is involved with labor in the 75,000 mile service ? I have called Corporate Infiniti and have asked the same thing. They are to respond within 24 hours after researching with Passport.

After over 13 years of loyalty to Infiniti, I am becoming jaded with the dealer service.

All input is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club! It's always a good idea to get an itemized list of what will be done before a service, rather than a generic "XX,XXX mile" service. These "mileage" services vary greatly from dealership to dealership.

My guess is that the charges you mention are fairly much in line with dealer prices for what was done - but nothing there sounds all that difficult. Mostly an oil change and assorted fluids and fluid additives, air filter, and some anti corrosion washers on the battery terminals. If you don't have the time to do these things yourself, then it's a good idea to have someone keep up with it. The next best option is a good independent who will use your factory parts from Joe at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com

Welcome to NICO!!!! always great to see another Q owner!!!

if you are getting work done that's not covered under some kind of warrenty, unless you don't mind paying the high dealer prices, would be a good idea to find a reputable independant mechanic. by joining NICO and doing searches for ANY of your car's needs, you will have the knowledge to almost any problem your car might have. not sure what the exact 75,000 mile service entails, but complete fluid replacement would be the first place i'd start. synthetics are highly recommended around here, most preferring mobil 1 or valvolene. changes should be for the rear differential fluid, power steering fluid (mobil 1 ATF), transmission fluid (mobil 1 ATF w/ a machine flush the best!), and brake fluid (valvolene syntech is what i used). i'm sure others will write in with other things, but keeping the fluids fresh is all important to the longevity of your Q!!!! don't skimp when it comes to changing these!!!!

again,,,welcome to NICO!jeff

I would definately agree that the 2.5 hours of labor would be correct with new brake bads, but the parts list was battery pads ??? What the heck is that ? Here is the entire parts listing for the "75,000 mile service" :Filter Oil Qty 1 @ 11.66 eachEngine Oil Qty 5 @ 2.95 eachWasher Solvent Qty 1 @ 2.95 eachOil Treatment Qty 1 @ 12.95 eachGas Treatment Qty 1 @ 12.95 eachBattery Pads - ACP45 Qty 1 @ 5.95 eachElement Assy - 16546 - 1P100 Qty 1 @ 16.58

And $20.00 for shop supplies.

btw, I think I have "found my board"... Two very valuable replies within 1/2 hour of my initial posting ! That is SUPERB !!!

Thanks again and my next question, How can I get the "driving my mother's car" off of profile ??? hehe... I just bought mom a cherry I-30, but I'm NOT driving it !!! :-)

dcboater, get friendly with one of the board's biggest supporters, Joe Tesensky at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com . He will save you a lot. There's a lot of padding in those dealer prices so they can pay their high overhead.

Welcome to the board.

Next time ask them questions like how much it will cost and what they will service before sign the order service.

I think what you got was a 3K miles service, which are an oil change and fill up all fluids.

Very pleased with all of the replies and I feel very fortunate that I came across this board. I do agree with all of the "buyer beware" commentary, but I guess I am from the "old school" of thinking that a 13 year loyal customer should be treated with greater integrity than what I feel has occured.

True that I have only been coming to this particular new dealer for a little over a year now, but you would think that the General Manager or Service Manager would be advised from Corporate of my year's of dedication and loyalty. I must be living in a dream world... Customer service is one thing that I take very highly and hold with utmost regard...

In the meantime I am waiting for a formal reply from Corporate Infiniti as to what really happened in this $300.00 oil change and will let you all know what transpires. I sincerely hope that I am not wasting bandwidth here. The responses that I have received are a pure indication to me of a genuine community here...

Once again, I am certainly glad that I "stumbled" across it. Thanks again !
