So, the new center/carrier bearing takes a lot of force to spin. I lent my machinist the FSM and had him put the new one on. The "F" mark is oriented towards the front. It's off the car; I have to brace the shaft like between my knees and use both hands to turn the bearing assy. I'm thinking it shouldn't be that hard to spin, and I'm wondering what may be wrong.

You are talking about the one that is staked (deformed) to keep it in place? I wonder if thet could ruin the bearing assy. At the very least, would it be safe to back the nut off a bit and re-use it? I really don't want to wait forever to get a new one from Nissan.

yea just make sure you use a punch or something to unstake it before turning it.
