Ok, so here's the scene:

I pull up behind this gangsta-looking Pontiac Grand Am GT (uhhhhh) and I notice that the driver is gesturing to the guy next to him about something and revving his engine. The guy next to him is gesturing back revving his engine also. I take a look at the car, and its a red 350Z--and from the sounds of it, probably stock.

Of course, immediately, I laugh, because this isn't going to end well for the Pontiac. But then I got curious. I wondered if my little Altima could keep up with the 350Z. So when the light turned green, I dropped it and what do you know? My car wasn't being left behind. So I let off the gas once I hit 60mph (driving in 40mph zone) and felt content with how my baby did.

But I guess those two knuckleheads noticed that I wasn't too far behind because at the next light, they moved over and let me into an open lane. Awww ****, son. So I pull up and look over, and they're ignoring me. They're yelling at each other about something... Sounded like the Pontiac driver was trying to negotiate a head start. The guy in the 350Z signals another straight up run on green, so I decide to join in.

The light turns green and we're off. Not a bad takeoff for not having revved up to 3k RPM... Chirp into 2nd... Drop into 3rd... What's this? The 350Z is starting to lose ground? Power into 4th... And it's official! Altima Coupe is the winner by a 1/4 car length to the next light.

The guy in the 350Z pulls up and is looking at me with a little confusion. His face is wiped out of view by the goofy grin on the Pontiac driver's face. He says, "Hey, give me a head start?" He looks at the other driver. We both laugh. The light turns green. The Grand Am takes off. I wait a beat. The 350Z takes off. I wait a half beat, then I'm off. This time I revved and dropped into first. Chirps hard into 2nd. I hear some grinding noises from across the way... idiot. Power into 3rd... I'm neck and neck with the 350Z. By the time I redline in 4th, I'm ahead a 1/2 car length. VICTORY!

As I pull off into the left turn lane, I hear the guy in the Pontiac yelling at the 350Z driver: "Dude, you lost! His car is faster than yours!" LOL. So sweet.

I know the only reason I won was that the driver of the Z was terrible. He was grinding his gears and not shifting at the right time. He might add that he had a passenger while I didn't, but in my defense, I do have something like 100 lbs of audio equipment in my trunk. But still, I'll take it. Not bad for a stock Altima Coupe 3.5SE. That was probably the most fun I've had in a while... Which is kinda sad, now that I think about it... lol.

Awesome. The Coupe does have some good kick.

I don't mind a friendly race as long as it's kept safe and away from others on the road.

I'm just glad you didn't end your story with "Not bad for a stock Altima Coupe 2.5, otherwise we'd have to call b.s.

I agree. I don't normally race on the streets... It's just that I haven't been able to enjoy my car what with all the snow that barely just all melted away within the past couple of weeks... and I couldn't resist. Trust me, I know of too many horror stories to go ricing around town.

Oh, and there was no one else on the road except us 3 if that makes anyone feel better.

it really doesnt matter if there were 1 or a million people on that street... someone could have been killed or seriously injured... i would have thought the people posting pics of their totaled nissans on here would be enough to make people think twice.

haha that would of been really funny.

but i think if a stock z vs. a 3.5 coupe, the z would win hands down...hence that the driver knows how to drive right??

LOL Looks like somebody was looking for validation.

I don't really think its completely wrong, especially when there aren't any other cars that aren't participating around, and no pedestrians at risk. As long as you don't go absolutely nuts.

i guess we are forgetting in the "real" world our altimas will not wax a z nor a g...same driver same circumstances....i can beat a ferrari with a winebago if the ferrari had a dog driving it and i had a 1/4 mile start.....z's and g's are set up differently, tuned differently..and lets not forget rwd...

im an insurance agent.... and in my line of work i have had to go to the scene of numerous accidents for my customers... which involved racing, speeding... and just being at the wrong place wrong time.

i even had to file a claim for a customers son that died while being hit head on by a racing teen.

and for the smart a$$ comment about why i bought my coupe... i wanted something classy yet sporty and i think the coupe was all that. who gets a v6 for gas mileage? thats a dumb remark. oh wait that was your attempt at humor

i guess being 29 now... ive been a teen and ive been an immature driver in my past... (19-22) and ive learned as a customer and as an agent.... that racing/speeding just gets you higher insurance rates and a higher chance of losing your life at an earlier age.

but then again... ill get off my soapbox... and just laugh when someone who posts their speeding/racing adventures get a racing conviction... and have their license suspended or better yet... car impounded.
