Well, with the 2003 M45, the G37 brakes are not an option. I now have just over 40K miles on the car (original front brakes) so I just ordered a full set (front & rear) of the Frozen Rotors with the Hawk pads. After a bunch or reasearch, I'm convinced these are the way to go. I also asked why they don't use ceramic pads, and he said that ceramics are somewhat unstable with hot spots and therefore do not recommend them.
The guy at FR said I should easily get 50 to 70K miles out of these brakes and that these will aslo stop WAY shorter/quicker with no heat fade to speak of.
I also opted to stay away from the drilled and slotted rotors due to the noise (thrumming) issues the guy mentioned is part of experience when slotted rotors are used. They told me that unless I'm driving on steep mountain roads every day or racing the thing, the standard cyrogenically treated rotors willl be up to the task. Their lifetime warranty against warping convinced me.
The process of actually getting the rotors is about a 10 day process. They order your rotor (premium grade) then treat it thus: it goes in a chamber that can hold up to 300 sets of rotors (or gun barrels, space shuttle parts, etc.), and they slowly drop the temp down to 300 degrees below zero, using liquid nitrogen gas, as its much more stable than the liquid dipping process. The rotors sit for about 22 hours at 300 below, then they are slowly raised in temp to around 600 degrees and they sit at that temp for about 10 hours, then they slowly cool them down to room temp. The whole process takes about 55 hours. After that, they are shipped out.
So, once I get them, I will shoot some pics of the install - my mechanic quoted $200 to install all 4 of them for me. I plan to paint my calipers at that time too. Nothing gaudy - probably just black.
