Im going to put my new steering rack and outer tie rods in tomorrow, any tips on this? Ive never done this before, do I have to purge the system of fluid, be careful of anything, any tips or suggestions on what to do would be helpful. Im hoping it's just basically take old one out and put new one in, then get an allignment. Thanks ahead of time.

A couple of tips. To get the tie rods out of the sterring knuckle once the nuts are removed, just smack the knuckle on the side where the tie rod is inserted with a heavy hammer till the tie rod ball joint just falls out. no need for a pickle fork.

make sure your steering wheel centered before you start the removal process. once the coupler is disconnecter at the rack make sure your steering wheel doesnt move[ I typically will remove the key from the ignition so the steering will lock if it starts to move] Be sure both the rack and the steering wheel are centered before you join them back together.

once you have it all back together. before starting it,fill the resivoir with fluid and rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop 10 times each while the front end is off the ground. this will help purge some of the air from the system and put less of a strain on your pump on initial start up. then with the front end off the ground still top off your fluid again and start the car. Rotate the wheel again 10 times stop to stop. this should purge any remaining air from the system and when you go to drive it with the wheels on the ground you should not hear any growling[straining] from the pump.

you may also want to read this thread as I have included how to adjust toe. when replacing your rack the only alignment angle that will be affected is toe.
