Putting back together front ashtray. Where does metal pin go

I took apart my front ashtray on my 98 Infiniti Q45 to modify it to fit a gauge and a couple switches. Now I'm trying to put it back together and I can figure out where the metal pin goes. The metal pin helps assist the ashtray out. Any chance anybody can tell me where it goes and how to put it back? Maybe take a picture of theirs. Thanks!
